This problem must be fixed urgently, as this is a real shame when we have visitors or open days. it i my understanding from the (very helpful) porters that in spite of repeated reporting noting really happens.

The lifts are not working properly for a while. I am not looking forward to the comments by our visitors on the open days next week!

We need to find an efficient way to liaise with estates for fixing problems and for monitoring other work done in Hicks. There used to be a fabric committee-- maybe it is time to reinstate it.

On the occasions that our lifts work, every time I am in the lift with a group of our undergraduates they are openly angry and annoyed about the lifts. This feeds into our students overall experience which feeds into the league tables which feeds into student recruitment.

I failed to mention in my last post that our Departmental Open Days start on Wednesday 27 November and take place each Wednesday and Friday throughout November, December, February and March. We really need Estates help to keep our lifts working. Do I have to send twice weekly e-mails to Estates with a list of complaints from the visitors to the Open Days before anything is done? I really do hope not.

The Lift Service in the Hicks has been poor for over two years, over the last three months or so it has become a shambles. They break down everyday, a quick look at the porters' incident makes clear the problem..I know of three people who have been stuck in the lift in the last three weeks, one for over twenty minutes. When the lifts are working, they suddenly stop, require passengers to exit, descend to the basement and then return to normal. The left lift at the moment is slow to respond to opening and closing doors. In the foyer, the buttons pressed to call the lift go off before the lift has arrived.. The situation is so bad that students are writing their own comments on notices posted in the lifts. What a terrible impression all this gives to visitors to the Hicks, on SoMaS Open Days, for example. The authorities always seem to be interested in quick fixes rather than addessing the underlying problem. Not fit for purpose.

It is ridiculous - especially for those working on the upper floors or with mobility/fitness concerns

As well as being inconvenient for current staff and students, the clear problems with the lifts will certainly adversely affect admissions.

It would really make life easier if those lifts were working properly.

This really does need to be given a high priority, not least for any students with disabilities who find it hard to get up and down the building.

I got trapped in the lifts last week! I was in there for 25 mins before someone got me out
Definitely needs to be updated.

So unfair for disabled students.
