As Undergraduate Admissions Secretary for The School of Mathematics and Statistics my role is to attract applicants to choose Sheffield as their place of study. The changes in the Admissions process generally is creating enough barriers for us to overcome as it is in fighting off competition from other Universities without having to fight battles within this University too. Estates may not meet external visitors to the University but they are just as responsible as the rest of us for the reputation of the University and each Department within the University. Please, please please help us to make this University a modern working University and not a Dinosaur University full broken facilities.

Its a disgrcace. I pay £9000 a year and this is the gift I get? I am outraged. My blood boils.

Open days to attract the next cohort of mathematics students begin next week. Our visiting students first impression of the university will be the broken lifts and a steep ascent up seven flights of stairs to K-floor. The consequence of this poor first impression could have significant financial repercussions for us.
I was also trapped in the lift for approximately fifteen minutes two weeks ago.

Prospective students and parents at Open Days will judge Sheffield on first appearances. Broken lifts appear to suggest that we don't care about students, particularly those with disabilities - which is far from the case! Fixing them should be the highest priority.
