Fix Our Parking!

Please City of Long beach, helo us with this matter. People park in what could be 2 spots because the street is not marked, street sweeping makes it harder to find places where you don't have to wake up at 3 am to move your car. Thank you

There hasn't been a system of resident permits for people who ACTUALLY live in the DTLB area. It is ridiculous. The streets on 1st and Esperanza are piling up with cars and at times cars have no choice to park illegally onto the curbs.

The parking situation is exhausting, embarrassing and taking a toll on quality of life. We want friends and family to visit to show them how great Long Beach is and what is has to offer, but it's embarrassing when they say they don't want to because they don't want to deal with parking. When visiting family in Northern California, we need to be sure we leave by a certain time (first thing in the morning) to ensure we can find a parking spot when we get back. The last thing we want to do it drive around looking for a spot for an hour after being in the car for 6 hours. On weekends when there are events: Long Beach Marathon, Grand Prix, Pride Weekend. We are stranded in Long Beach because if we move our car, we will lose our spot and it will take us an hour to find one regardless the time of day. We want to look forward to these events but they are a reminder of the stressful parking situation. Long Beach is such a great city but the parking situation is giving it a bad reputation. Something needs to be done!

Even though it is not my neighborhood. I end up parking between Junipero and Redondo almost every night. Additional parking spaces are needed everywhere including this area. I suggest diagonal parking be added on the south side of 1st Street between Kennebec and Redondo. Of course the movie industry would not like that.

I've lived in the Los Alamitos Beach area for about 18 years and the parking situation is only getting worse. Please help us.

I have lived in several metropolitan cities and have never experienced such poor parking as long beach. When walking around my neighborhood I see countless garages being used for storage instead of parking. I realize the city can probably not mandate an owner or occupant to utilize their garage for parking, but there are other solutions. The best Street parking experience I had was in Washington, DC. Every year you validate your address with the city, pay $100 and you receive a resident permit. This permit allows only residents of the neighborhood to park for more than an hour. Permit revenue and ticket revenues (violators)!

The purpose of this petition is to get the Planning Commission to look at the information. We are not asking the city to hire our parking consultant. He did not prepare a written report on the entire problem because we did not pay him to do so. It's a very big subject and that would be costly. Reports like that come later. At this point, it's easier for the Commissioners to hear his opinions and ideas, then ask questions. Planning staff and the Mayor's staff have already done this. However, he cannot do this without it being an agenda item for the Planning Commission. Without being on the agenda, we have only 3 minutes to make public comment and even then, the Planning Commission cannot discuss it unless it's on the agenda. Parking became much worse just in the last 3 years and will continue to do so unless some policies are changed. There are specific things that can be done, things that have been successful in other cities.

We really need parking, would be smart to do underground parking

I live on 1st street between Orange and Esperanza. I changed my work schedule because parking is such a problem. If I get home late, I have my husband come with me to hunt for parking because I don't feel safe walking home by myself the far distance that is often necessary because of how impacted parking is. Parking is a major inconvenience on our household.

not only not enough parking, not enough handicap parking either!

We need resident parking structures. Many are willing to pay for a place to park their cars which would be a source of income for the city as well as safer for the residents. The old location for Hamburger Mary's could be used or any other unused space. Please do something!!

Parking is awfull, so hard to find. Please there's lots of people struggling for parking every day every time!

It looks like the city had enough parking before a lot of the SF residences converted to apartments. But our current neighborhoods are operating over capacity and do not have the parking spaces necessary for current residences to live comfortably. Often I see illegally parked cars overnight since there is no immediately available parking. The situation is both inconvenient and unsafe, on many fronts.

Parking is ridiculous 1st street and falcon. 1st street should have painted parking spots.

I struggle to find parking EVERY SINGLE DAY, I live at 3rd and Olive.

Please do not remove parking on 1st and 2nd street between junipero and cherry around bixby park!. All those 100 parking spaces are needed.

I'm just signing so I can comment. I find all you people hilarious. Mad at the city because they cant magically create more parking spaces out of thin air. There's not a single actual proposal here, just whining about a circumstance that existed before you CHOSE TO MOVE HERE. Removing red curbs, adding diagonal parking, changing street sweep times...all these actions have added parking. Your response? Keep complaining, keep saying the "city is doing nothing". You live in a big, dense city! There is no constitutional right to a close parking space. By the way, your parking "consultant" can present anything he wants to the planning commission. Just show up at a meeting and give them the report. But I would GUESS they cant hire him without a public bidding process. Parking sucks! About this you are right. And no one denies this! But your expectation that "they" just "fix" this is ridiculous.

It is very obvious there are many more residences without provided parking. It's ridiculous!
