Fix Our Parking!

After 2 hours circling my block and crying on the phone to my15 year old daughter who was waiting for me, I just gave up and parked illegally in front of a gated driveway to a church, that I've never seen opened and walked two blocks home at 1am. Then spent the night worrying that I'd get a ticket...because I couldn't take it anymore! I try to Never leave my house on Tue/Wed/Fridays due to having this extremely painful experience EVERY time...when the Church's 2 parking lots are empty, as well as Savers! With all the late night business here, you'd think the Church or Savers would help it's neighbors and local customers!

Hiring a parking consultant seems like more wasted time, money, and resources. The solution is to make the spots in Alamitos beach into "resident only" parking that require a permit. Each household is issued one permit (with a fee so that the City doesn't have to worry about losing parking ticket revenue) that is renewable per year. Each space is sectioned off so there is no controversy over one car taking up multiple spots. This solution requires no new construction and barely any movement on the part of the city council. Although it may result in less parking for visitors, it is the way most beach communities in the developed world handle their parking situation. This is the only real solution. Finally, VOTE FOR JEANINE PEARCE ON JUNE 7TH. She has proposed this exact solution.

parking in the arts district is already impacted for residents in the area before adding any new burden.

As a senior citizen finding parking at least 2 or 3 blocks from my apartment it's getting more difficult every day. Yes, I use public transportation, but sometimes I have to travel to visit my grandkids to Riverside and San Fernando Valley and if I return after 4:00p.m. It's near to impossible to find parking nearby Ocean and Broadway. Please help to correct this situation. Thanks to all those involved!

I do not go out after 5pm because I know I will not find any parking spots when I come back.

I am business owner & property owner at east village down town. We are greatly suffering from lack of parking. We need more parking & we want out talented city employees & public come up with creative ideas to improve parking situation. Edison parking lot must be utilize to help the situation. Mayor need to revisit this issue.

I've lived in the Alamitos Beach area for over a year now and parking is an absolute nightmare. If it's after 5 p.m. during the week (sometimes earlier) FORGET finding parking near your home. I usually circle in and around at least a 3 block radius from my house for 30-40 min, depending on the time of day, then settle on parking illegally close to home so that I don't have to walk by myself if it's late at night. I risk getting a parking ticket for my own safety and wake up early in the morning to find a spot once people have gone to work and I know I'm not the only one who does this because even the red spots are getting hard to find. Weekends? Just pray that you don't have to go anywhere with a car because there's no way you're finding a parking spot close to home.

HELP US PARK

The parking issue is real and it is not just a few neighborhoods that experience this problem. This affects people on a daily basis, affects how people feel about their neighborhood and their city, and affects public safety. Come up with Real solutions and stop ignoring the problem and giving in to business interests.

I've lived in Alamitos Beach for almost 16 years and have always had issues with finding parking. I never have visitors because of the issue

I support parking for local residents. Have to show proof of residency every six months or annually to have a valid parking pass

Thank you for doing this I was just talking to my roommate about getting signatures to support a proposition that we can place on the next election ballot! Suja Sucks rather spend neighborhood improvement funds on painting the rainbow flag at every cross-walk instead of fixing the parking situation and pothole ridden alley ways! Not a fan of Mayor Garcia either. I would like to see Residential Parking Permits issued to all Alamitos Beach Residents who have rented or owned property in the area for at least the last 4 years it's only fair since the neighborhood is transient. I would pay $150 a year for that and I think that property owners who don't have parking or enough for the # of bedrooms (like the 5 in my 10 unit condo building) should get 1st priority.) The city should issue one permit per Bedroom and after property owners (we pay the property taxes that should be used to improve our neighborhoods) w/out parking are taken care of they should open it to renters and even hold a lottery every year if they have to. Also, I would like to see signs that prohibit parking of commercial vehicles and RVs or oversized trucks from Alamitos Avenue to Junipero and Ocean to 4th, except for Broadway b/c the merchants need those spots open. I am so sick of all the people who come to the beach on the weekends in the summer and take up parking on 1st and Ocean b/c they are too freaking cheap to pay $5 or $7 for the day at the beach lot. Also I think that with the residential parking permits it would be fair to open up the parking to those without stickers between the hours of 10am and 2pm, Monday thru Friday, but definitely not on weekends or holidays. Last week was insane with Gran Prix, no one moved cars for 3 days so it was impossible to park anywhere close to my home at 1st and Esperanza. My roommate had to park at 1st and Kennebec and take a freaking uber to the house b/c it was 11pm and she just got home from work. Anyway I really appreciate what you are doing and

Please address the parking issue immediately. It is a quality of life issue. If you can't understand that you dont have a clue about this city.

I live on 1st St, between Falcon and Esperanza. Something need happen to improve parking instead of making decisions that make it worse for those who love here.

Time to reign in the developers who exchange $$ with the city, in order to receive a waiver to allow less parking than ordinance requires.

This parking situation is extremely unfortunate. I can't invite people over, sometimes forced to park blocks away late at night, and it decreases the value of living in this otherwise great area. Please invest in long beach and help minimize this issue. The downtown/Alamitos area will only continue to thrive, and this needs to be addressed before it is a lost cause!

I cant have friends over due to the parking situation and am considering moving out of this area.
