Here, here! I lived in Washington DC and Manhattan, Hells Kitchen, from 1998 - 2002. When I moved from DC to NYC I kept my car for the 1st 6 months. I had to move my car 2x week to opposite streets and it was no way near as difficult to find a space within a reasonable walking distance from my apartment as it is here in Alamitos Beach!

I have the same issue! Also I was in a relationship with the same man for the last 6 years up until February and it didn't take long for him to tell me that he wasn't coming to my place if I didn't reserve him a spot! Even at 4pm on a Saturday he drove around for 45 mins and then went back to Pedro. The parking was not why we broke up but it did put a small strain on making plans together in long beach.

I am in total agreement with you on the ordinance except for the warning. If signs are posted and ordinance is properly communicated to the neighborhood in advance, no warning necessary. Issue a fine of no less than $100 on the 1st offense and tow them on the 2nd! These people no exactly what they are doing is not legal or fair b/c there are lines painted all along first and 2nd street to distinguish the spaces.

Love your idea but I live on 1st street and all of the parallel spots are painted but it does not stop people from taking up 2 spots to save one for someone else later on. The city needs post signs that it is illegal to park over the lines and then issue a ticket ($100, not the $58 it is now) or tow that person after the 2nd offense. The city can probably make more money on that than they do paying some low life to drive around in a jeep and ticket people who have no where to park b/c they had to park in a non parking zone for a few hours.
Financial incentives always seem to change people's behavior.

Hopefully this will work, but seeing as this city is a business, and no business wants to lose money....especially what they make off giving us parking tickets, I doubt they'll change....but I submit my signature either way....I am hopeful. Good luck.

Thank you for doing this I was just talking to my roommate about getting signatures to support a proposition that we can place on the next election ballot! Suja Sucks rather spend neighborhood improvement funds on painting the rainbow flag at every cross-walk instead of fixing the parking situation and pothole ridden alley ways! Not a fan of Mayor Garcia either.
I would like to see Residential Parking Permits issued to all Alamitos Beach Residents who have rented or owned property in the area for at least the last 4 years it's only fair since the neighborhood is transient. I would pay $150 a year for that The city should issue one permit per Bedroom to properties without a parking space or garage spot even if it means holding a lottery every year. Also, I would like to see signs that prohibit parking of commercial vehicles and RVs or oversized trucks from Alamitos Avenue to Junipero and Ocean to 4th, except for Broadway b/c the merchants need those spots open.
I am so sick of all the people who come to the beach on the weekends in the summer and take up parking on 1st and Ocean b/c they are too freaking cheap to pay $5 or $7 for the day at the beach lot. Also I think that with the residential parking permits it would be fair to open up the parking to those without stickers between the hours of 10am and 2pm, Monday thru Friday, but definitely not on weekends or holidays.
Last week was insane with Gran Prix, no one moved cars for 3 days so it was impossible to park anywhere close to my home at 1st and Esperanza. My roommate had to park at 1st and Kennebec and take a freaking uber to the house b/c it was 11pm and she just got home from work.
I heard there was lawsuit being drawn up against the city for violating CEQA and I hope it's true!
Everyone: Please make sure you vote in the next Mayor election too! This so called "democratic" leader of ours takes action like a Republican right along with Suja and the rest of his posse. Democrats should b

My family has happily lived on 1st Street for over 7 years, however, throughout the years, parking has become not only a nuisance, but a safety issue. If you are looking improve the image of Long Beach as a major metropolis, you need to get this issue under control!!!!

lots of streets need to have the parking spots painted so the people park correctly instead of taking some times 2 spots rather to save it for some one later or because they don't know how to park

Parking around Alamitos and Bonito is next to impossible after 3 in the afternoon and on weekends. I often rearrange my errands to accomodate the parking difficulties. We need more parking!

It's a good idea, but that doesn't help the fact that there is still not enough parking for the residents in general. Instead of giving the city more money, we need to make them use the money they already make on parking tickets to use towards creating a more efficient parking system for the residents.

How about a "Parking Bill of Rights" for existing public parking spaces?
Daily, I witness residents of Alamitos Beach "reserving" a parking space for their partner, roomate, friend or date by using one car to block 2 parking places--one car, two spaces. People that I have observed in my 'hood will hold such a space for hours to all day and well into the evening. This is a private "taking" of a public resource.
As far as I know, public parking is a public resources that we all pay for through taxes. Thus, public parking was designed to opperate on a first come first serve basis.
The city should pass an ordnance stating this policy for all and establish a parking fine for cars that take/reserve 2 public spaces with one car. The ordnance would establish a basic standard of how far constitutes parking space hogging. Start with warning tickets for the first 3 to 6 months and move to real fines. Also, add a "illegal parking" feature to the GoLongBeach app. Then residents can report vehicles that they see chronically or repeatedly taking 2 spaces with one car. Being able to take and upload a picture of the offending license plate and observed parking. GoLongBeach configured this would allow the City parking enforcement system to mail warning notices to reported offenders--with guidelines attached.

I am a property manager and leasing agent for 5 buildings in the Alamitos Beach area. Unfortunately the older apt buildings were not built with garages for every unit and in many cases only have 5 garages for 10 or more units. I am blatantly honest about the difficulty in finding street parking with my prospective tenants and understandably it is often a deal breaker in renting my vacancies!

I get anxiety over the difficulty of parking near home and worry for my safety since I sometimes have to walk home from a far distance (parking far away) in the dark.
Please fix our parking situation.
