In June 2020, the first IDOT said the Jefferson Street Bridge would be fixed by July 2020. Then in July, IDOT changed the date to the end of 2020. Then in November, we got another date to fix our bridge, April 30, 2021. Now that date is approaching, we get the news today that IDOT is saying it will take another seven months to fix the bridge. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE! We expect more from our leaders and the governmental organizations that are supposed to help keep our city maintained! We are the third-largest city in Illinois with a broken bridge, which would not help our economic development at all, especially for our Downtown small businesses who depend on our bridges to be successful. A broken bridge that separates our city when we should unifying it is not acceptable.
Please let Omar Osmar, IDOT Secretary (1-217-782-7820), Governor JB Pritzker (1-217-782-0244) our Springfield Senators and Reprenstatiives know by signing our petition or calling Sec. Osmar or Governor Pritzker.

The persistent silence from IDOT regarding the latest delay confirms that we must continue to escalate our efforts. I am currently coordinating with local small business owners to ensure our collective frustration reaches the officials responsible for this infrastructure failure.

The level of engagement this petition has received demonstrates that our community will no longer accept these persistent delays. I am currently preparing to present this collective demand to the relevant officials to ensure they understand the urgency of this infrastructure failure.

This bridge is constantly down and causes huge traffic jams because it’s not open.
Every time I try to get downtown I get stuck in gridlock. This is a mess and they just keep pushing back the date. Get it done already.
It’s just plain ridiculous that the Jefferson St bridge has been out so long!! And I had no idea the other ones were unsafe!
RIDICULOUS. How long are we supposed to wait? My commute is a nightmare every single day because of this bridge.
We need our bridges fixed. It’s been too long being broken. Our commuters need that bridge fixed.
