Fix IUP's Fees

As a senior persuing a degree in music education, I am set to graduate this May. This news is apalling. I have had to take 18 or more credits a semester in order to graduate in four years. It's absolutely repulsive that greed can consume the new "business" of higher education.

It is specifically 39.2%..... So that's something to remember and realize. It's OVER TEN TIMES the state average of tuition.

This is not fair to your students who are at your school for a real education instead of just being there to party. As an alumni of a private university, I personally know that if a student wants a good education they will work harder to pass their classes and take the classes in a proper amount of time instead of spending time having fun and just getting by. I am now a PA-C because my university was strict about taking so many classes a semester and passing them, and I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. You're just making things easier for the slackers and more difficult for the students who are at your university to earn an education and plan to do so by taking 16-18 credits a semester.

Greed at its finest. My daughter pays for school herself. Your really putting a hardship on these kids.

This is absolutely ridiculous. College is already so expensive and I personally am graduating with about $40,000 in debt which some people consider a low amount when it comes to college debt. We should be making college more affordable at this point not less.

The college business system that already reaps money from people trying to get somewhere in life doesn't need more of our money. Find a way to service us and not make money off of us every opportunity that is presented.

I chose IUP because of the flat-rate tuition plan... Changing it now is ridiculous. Current students should be grandfathered in and allowed to continue paying a flat rate for tuition, and new students starting with Fall 2016 can start the new pay-per-credit plan.

As a parent of an IUP student graduating this spring and another one getting ready to start as a freshman in Fall 2016, this is very disappointing.

It's pretty sad that I'd actually save more money finishing my degree in 5 1/2 years than four here, all because I'm a music major and I'm taking 18+ credits. And it's still a good $8,500 more than the previous system even if I do it that way, not including the yearly increases. It looks to me that I have no choice but to drop out of IUP. Sure, this worked in Millerswhatever and they're reaching their goals with "surprising results" and "low drop out rates" and all that flowery horse manure they give the news media. This isn't going to fly here at IUP. You're going to lose plenty of students, and what a shame, too. I actually thought this school had good programs. Guess I won't be the first of my immediate family to get a degree. Thanks IUP.

As a parent of a freshman, this is a slap in the face. We chose IUP based on pricing. The new pricing plan is horrible. It shoul be offered to new coming students. Your current students should be grandfathered in.

This should not apply to students already enrolled (at least). Tuition was a main selling factor by the school to prospective students. Tuition and finacial aid is beyond a 50% consideration for the students when picking a school. It is not fair to put already enrolled students in this position of possible failure because of such a last minute decision made by the school. They could have been given the respect of this possibility before deciding what would be best for their academic career choice. Very very dissapointed.

As a music major who has to take 18 credits per semester in order to graduate on time, this is extremely unfair. We will go out into the world already in mass debt as well as only making roughly 30,000 a year for about 10 years. There are business majors here who have the potential of 60,000 a year who only have to take 14 credits. This doesn't make sense to me and I would prefer not having to stay 6-7 years just to save money in the long run.

Maybe they should cut back on the rebuilding and remodeling and concentrate on educating the students at affordable prices.

Makes it extremely hard for people to get a good education anymore. Students won't be able to graduate with one major let alone a dual major with any type of minior. Being a business student, my two minors allowed me to earn a great internship opportunity. That's out the window now for upcoming students. All the university cares about anymore is making money and not using it to fund the proper things. We pay way too much for food here, just to put that out here as well. I guess when I have children and they grow up, they won't be attending IUP. So sad.

Let's keep things fair and in place for those already enrolled who would like to be able to continue their education at IUP. Let's also do what's best for all students who wish to continue their secondary education!

The cost of this is outrageous and ridiculous. As if college wasn't already too expensive!

My daughter is in 8th grade and still years away from college, but she had a strong interest in IUP because of her love of theater, music, and the arts in general. This is such a hit to the gut for already enrolled students for certain, but if this increase continues, then by 2020-2021 enrollment, the price will be so enormous that very few students will be able to afford to attend IUP. Personally, I know people now that are in there 40's that are STILL paying back student loans and they graduated over 15 years ago. It's a shame when you want to go to a good college to receive a good degree only to find out that most of your money that you will make at the job that you get from this degree will be put back to the school and to the student loans. It's a vicious cycle, unfortunately. Something better needs to be done.

Please. If this change goes through, I will be unable to attend college at IUP.
