I'll keep this short, the flat rate is expensive, but I will not stay more because I can only afford 12 credits. It'll end up hurting in the long run.

To graduate on time in the sciences, 16-18 credit semesters are the norm.

I feel that the tuition changes should only apply to incoming students. It is not fair to adjust the tuition for students who are on a fixed budget, or who only have a minimum amount of financial aid left, i.e students who have a year or 2 left until graduation. This new change will dramatically effect IUP.

I have needed 15 credits per semester to graduate in 4 years. It's ridiculous and unfair to punish students who work harder by making the price of wanting to graduate in a timely fashion so much higher.

I may not go to IUP or even be a music major, but I know what it's like to feel hopeless that you'll never get everything done in time. I'm a biology major and it's hard to find time for everything required within four years. It's basically scheduled out each semester to have the fullest amount of credits possible.

Also needing to be taken into consideration is the fact that the university requires you to have 120 credits as a graduation requirement across the board. To complete this in 4 years as is the norm for most people, that 15 credit average courseload is a requirement. If taking less than 15 credits a semester, then another year is required if you plan to take the 12 credit minimum to be considered a full-time student. That's another year of per-credit tuition costs plus the activity fees and such.

Affordability is what today's college students need. Raising the cost won't fix the dropout rate.
