Fire Prevention - PETITION To Increase Brush Clearance

Come to our house that backs up to Hillcrest at Duesenberg if, God forbid, there's another fire and the tell us your if guidelines actually mean anything. Climate change requires attitude change.

Hardly working people cost millions to others!

This year, more than ever, we need to be increasing the buffer zone between wild lands and our homes. Wildfires in 2020 have outrun available resources to fight them, and we should be doing everything in our power to assist in protecting our homes from the inevitable.

The Santa Ana winds are the biggest threat to the County of Ventura. It’s highly likely that our wildfires will get worse. Please improve vegetation management in the Open Space. Please remove all dead, diseased or dying vegetation in the widest possible swath between wild lands and homes. Thank you!

We know the damage the Woolsey fire caused and now we are on Red Alert because the Santa Ana winds are forecast to be coming next week! We have at least 2 more months of fire season! Many experts agree that we need more agressive weed abatement because our weather patterns are changing as evidenced bythe raging wildfires that now are occurring yearly. We know COSCA received $8.5 million in a settlement from the Woolsey fire, so we are asking that a small portion of the award be used to remove the the dangerous mustard grass and increase defensible space near structures. That is being a good steward of the City's portion of the COSCA land. Furthermore, public safety is what we expect from our City officials. Consequently, the open space needs to be managed with the goal of mitigating danger to your constituents.

Controlled fire burning should be happening now!

We have been rebuffed time and time again by our elected officials with the same egregious justifications . No one is trying to impact the open space in a negative manner. We just need to do our best to prevent it from burning to a crisp as it did in the Woolsey fire. Black mustard is invasive and not native, and the critters will be wiped out by a another fire. And there will be one. We haven't even had the Santa Anas yet.

As our fire risks increase we must make adjustments to the current minimal abatement requirements. It doesn't not take a scientist to see that the current dead weeds and brush sit way too close to homes and businesses that make up our neighborhood.

Let's make the firefighters' jobs easier this year and clear the dead brush in advance of the Santa Ana winds! And let's clean house when we vote, and not re-elect anyone who opposes this idea.

That is the current requirement. We are asking for more. 100 feet is not enough.

We live in the Summit homes right off of Westlake blvd and Autumn Ridge. The home across the street from us burned down in the Woolsey Fire 2 years ago despite the fact that they had just cleared their entire slope. Please help!!

We are very grateful that the firefighters were able to save our block during the Woolsey fire which raged to the curb across the street from our home. The fires this year are out of control without wind, and we know that Santa Ana wind events WILL occur. To give our neighborhoods in Thousand Oaks (we live in the Lang Ranch area) a fighting chance, we should proactively clear more defensible area than required.
