TOO many children are falling through the cracks. Not every parent can access programs such as AEIOU - nor can every parent afford the thousands of dollars it is per year. Not every parent can access ECDP. Not every parent can access or afford the intensive, expensive therapies for their children with Autism. When it comes to Special schools (which children aren't eligible to start at until they're 5), it's not always the best or appropriate action for the child. Putting these kids into Mainstream schools can work well for some, but for most - it's just not beneficial in any way, for ANYONE. The lack of help, the lack of early intervention and the lack of options for families with children on the spectrum is frightening - even more so when the number of children diagnosed significantly increases per year. We need these schools, we need them immediately - don't ignore future generations now. Not only is it bad in this present, it will be disastrous (for everyone) in the future.

There is a large void currently in Qld for schooling for children on the Spectrum, this needs to be changed. They need much smaller class sizes and understanding, knowledgeable teachers to receive the best outcomes.

All ASD children deserve an education in a school where they are safe and have teachers that are trained to help and teach in a way that they can learn

As a qualified social worker with a masters degree working with vulnerable children I too often see young people and children for who the mainstream education system has been unable to provide an education program that meets their needs. Too many children fall through the gaps when there is a "one size fits all" mentaility to teaching. Children with special needs, whether that be due to trauma, being on the spectrum or having learning difficulites such as dsylexia deserve to have a learning environment that will benefit them and allow them to develop to their full potential. Mainstream schooling is not enough. Specialised schooling for children and young people with autisim would be the first step in the right direction for ensuring that all those in the eudcation system receive a quality education.

Please bring autism specific schools into Queensland, life is tough enough for kids and their families. I have two autistic children in my family and it's a daily struggle for them.

My son is Homeschooled. He left the State system after several attempts at different schools but they were unable to cater for his needs. At one stage I was even working in the school with my son but even that didn't work. Autistic schools implemented would allow children like my son who are unable to fit the mainstream an education. This needs to go all the way through to year 12 not just primary. ASD children should be provided with an equal opportunity to public education that suits them.

It's not fair that our children should have to struggle in mainstream with staff that don't have the resourcs or time to give to our wonderful children.

Isn't it about time our children were given more specialised teaching in todays world.
