I agree it would be a more productive and less stressful for children with autism . But I would need an element of interaction with mainstream schools to make sure they can interact well with society

I have 2 beautiful little men with ASD. My oldest is 9 and is coping beautifully in a mainstream setiing. My youngest is 7 and cannot cope at all in a mainstream setting. He is in the SEP the whole time and they are wonderful with him. He does need very specific help though to cope in the SEP AND for his safety - he is not II so does not need a special school, but he does need more specialised help in his SEP setting. High school for my youngest? No idea what to do. He cannot be mainstreamed but doesn't belong in a special school......what on earth lies ahead for him?!

These school are needed in Queensland and other parts of Australia, I am a mother of 4 children and 2 that are Autistic every day is a challenge for us all, but the hardest is school, apart from bullying from students, teachers and parents, the children struggle to be accepted into main stream. This is something that is needed desperately!

We have been to 3 different state schools including one with a really big SEU. We now homeschool because the school system failed my son socially, emotionally and academically.

This would not only be a wonderful opportunity for the children but also lessen the pressure felt by the current schooling system to cope with behaviors they are not equipped for :-)
