Fight to Write

I love creative writing, and it's sad that it doesn't get the appreciation or respect it deserves.

I never had the opportunity to take a creative writing class as a young student, and I would have loved it more than any of the core classes. Bring back creative writing!

Creative Writing is a highlight of most kids' schooling experiences and is the first thing most kids appreciate about English when they aren't interested at all.

Creative writing is what makes our books human, don't take it out of young kids lives. Don't take our ability to learn away.

I adore writing and it is helpful for sorting out my thoughts and learning new and interesting words, Please don't take this away from the people who are passionate about it! It's just as important as sports and the performing arts for some kids and teens!

Please keep creative writing in the schools. My son lives to write.

As a former library storyteller and K and 1st grade teacher in both South Florida and Utah, it is absolutely a priority to keep writing in the curriculum. Students still nee the basics in our digital age to be well rounded. I have worked with students from all over the world. Creative writing must be preserved in our highschools! With the high percentage of diverse students inour education system who are non-english speakers, creative writing allows students to develop necessary language skills and vocabulary that they will always need for communication and development of literacy skills.

As a writer and a lover of words, it's so important for our children learn the skill of writing well.

Creative writing in high schools, I think, is much needed not only for fun but for aspiring writers to pursue their dreams to be and author.

One of the big reasons I'm as analytical as I am now is because I had Creative Writing in Elementary School. It pushed me to discover something I wouldn't have otherwise and overall made me more learned on a variety of subjects because I needed to research it for my writing.

You can see what a difference Teen Author Boot Camp is when you see 800+ youth go to Teen Author Bootcamp at UVU, that says that kids love creative writing. We need it back in our schools.

My children are all grown with children of their own. I am concerned for my grandchildren's well being. It is important to me that my grandchildren have the opportunity to have creative writing offered in not only the schools they attend but all schools.

I graduated in 1996 and my favorite class out of all of high school was creative writing! I don't know who I'd be today without the things I learned there!

Writing is very important.

As a retired Creative Writing and English teacher, I would like to see more emphasis given to the creative writing process. There are so many talented student writers out there, and their voices should not be muted or ignored. The need to write technically for standardized testing has become a priority in many English classes. Stifling these students is a disservice to those potential authors seated in our classrooms.

Why should we bring back creative writing? The real question is why not?
