John is my all-time favorite professor. No teacher cares more about his students than John. He taught me so many invaluable skills--writing and grammar of course, but also life lessons about love and humor. He is just the most phenomenal person and has positively impacted so many students over his many years at U of M. His career should be celebrated and honored. I cannot thank him enough for his friendship and everything he has taught me.

John Rubadeau is the best teacher and mentor that I had at the University of Michigan. Whether it was playing with his two dogs or coming in weekly for office hours to talk, John made each and every student feel special. He also taught me my new life mantra “quid pro quo” that has stuck with me ever since the first day of English 425. I support this petition and urge the University to change their decision!

Obtaining a University of Michigan degree was one of the proudest moments of my life, but I learned more in John's class than I did from my remaining 120+ credits. John teaches his students how to write, how to form lasting connections, how to truly value diversity, how to respectfully challenge others, and how to thrive beyond Ann Arbor.

From the first class, John fosters trust, camaraderie, cheerfulness, and excellence amongst his students. His is the single best, most informative, most looked forward to class I've ever taken, and he is the most caring, thoughtful, and committed teacher I've ever had. John visits every one of his former or current students at their home on graduation day to meet and congratulate them and their families. I have told every person I know to take his class and am heartbroken for the students who now won't have the chance. This is a black mark on my formerly spotless memory of the University of Michigan. What a shame.

John is one of the most caring individuals I have met during my days in Ann Arbor. I had the joy of taking his class twice and cherish the memories that my classes and I made in those hours together. It’s rare to find someone who enjoys what they do as much as John, and the UM English Department will surely be losing one of its finest.
