John changed the way I write. He changed the way I think. He changed the way think about myself. All for the better. If I had not taken his class my senior year I might not have survived it. I hope to help him a fraction of the amount he helped me.

What a terrible decision. John is a treasure and the University will be much worse without him. I learned so much from him in terms of writing and life, and he was perhaps the only professor there who me feel like he cared what happened to me after graduation.

An excerpt from my letter to President Schlissel and David Porter:
Through all my interactions with John over the years he has never once exhibited even the slightest hint of bad character or inappropriate behavior toward any individual. Quite the contrary. He makes a true effort to stay in touch with so many people that I don't know how he does it, but he does. He's a true life mentor and role model to all. He loves teaching and he loves his students. He loves his dogs (all dogs, actually); he loves his friends; and most of all he loves his wife and family.
It pains me greatly that after all John has done for the University that the U wouldn't be more supportive of him. This situation deserves some more investigating. Look at the positive effect he's had on at least thousands of his students over all these years. Look at his awards. Look at his reviews. John deserves much better than this. I plead with you to take a greater look at this.

There's truly not enough words in the American Heritage College Dictionary to describe how much of a loss the university has experienced by firing John and how egregious of a wrong this is by the administration. He has earned, and should be entitled to, more than this.

This is an absolute travesty. I will never give or return to that school. Firing great professors is for small, failing liberal arts colleges in the middle of nowhere, not for a school with a multi-billion dollar endowment. You’re supposed to be an academic institution, not a political machine.

Professor Rubadeau was one of my references as I moved to NYC to hopefully one day become an Editor at a publisher. I wanted to pursue that profession because of his Advanced Essay Writing class. I am a Senior Editor now and he is one of the main reasons why. Based on what I have heard, I don't understand this move by UofM and am happy to sign.

When asked if there was a single professor at the University of Michigan that made my tuition, time, and energy worthwhile over my four years, it was hands down John Rubadeau.
Each and every day, with every email I write, with every phone call I make, every communication I mail, his words influence and make my work stronger.
John taught us how language and words are important; he taught us how to string them together to make meaning and bring people together.
It would be a true shame to take away this incredible learning opportunity from the students.

We are telling you that you are making a colossal mistake in firing the best example of what The U of M has to offer, academically. John Rubadeau's passion is contagious. His intention is pure. And his teaching skills set a bar to be reached. To throw all of that away is shameful.
