Fight for the Rights of John Rubadeau

John has been a positive force in my sons life not only when he was his teacher but even after graduation. He is the kind of person we need in our classrooms.

While I never had the pleasure of taking any of John's classes, many I know did and were so positively changed by them. I did work-study in the English Dept and learned much simply by proximity to.such a great teacher.

With the termination of John Rubadeau, we are not only losing one of the best, but we are also disgracing a 78-year-old man who has served this institution admirably for the past three decades. I am sincerely ashamed of the place that I have called home since 2008.

WE LOVE YOU JOHN!

John was one of the best lecturers the university has ever seen. The impact he has had is immeasurable, and he deserves so much better from the university. His termination is unfounded, and the fact that he is not receiving any benefits of the remaining years of his contract is ridiculous. We stand behind you, John.

I learned more about grammar and the English language in John’s class than I did in all the other 13 English classes I took at Michigan combined. This man has made me look at the world differently, and go forth each day unafraid and ready to conquer whatever adversity I may find myself faced with. What other professor has a single picture of any former or current student hanging in his or her office let alone a photograph of all the over 4K he has taught? #bringbackjohn #teamrubadeauforever

There isn’t much that I can say that hasn’t already been said. Professor Rubadeau has an incredibly rare ability to relate to the many unique personalities that come through this university. Firing him is certaintly moving in the wrong direction.

John is a true Michigan legend and firing him deprives many young minds from an incredible learning experience where you bond with fellow students and learn more about yourself as an individual. He deserves a chance to defend himself and set the record straight. What makes him amazing is that he is untraditional- don’t force him to change that.

This is a ridiculous decision. I'm embarrassed by my alma mater.

Professor Rubadeau was the best English instructor and Professor at the University of Michigan. I am a High School English teacher because of him and wasn’t an education major. Please reconsider your decision to terminate Professor Rubadeau.

Absolutely disgraceful of the University of Michigan. I knew John in the classroom and out. He may be vulgar to some, but just let him talk and he'll teach you the meaning of the words, the history of language, and how to use it all for effective and wonderful communication. His teachings are ones I use more than any other I had at UofM. SAVE RUBADEAU!!!!!

John was a phenomenal teacher. He taught us more then the majority of teachers at the university.

I learned of John's legendary teaching abilities when I was his IT support person in the English department "back in the day". Fast forward a few years and I voluntarily chose to take his undergraduate course while in grad school as my writing was atrocious. Since then, I have told anyone who will listen that it was John's class that seminally changed my writing for the better, and that they and anyone they knew would benefit from John's teaching.

This is a travesty! John was the Robin Williams of Good Will Hunting! I don’t remember many of my college professors, but I will never forget John. The university is less of a great institution because of this decision. I feel turkey sorry for the students who will miss out on having him as a teacher.

Can’t imagine what my college years would’ve looked like without John. Incredibly disappointed by my alma mater’s decision.

Thank you for helping me remember exactly who I was, John. Now, I can focus on who I want to be again.

John was a devoted professor and friend. He not only taught me countless lessons about the English language but also lessons about the kind of person I want to be. He has made an immense impact on my life and career. I am eternally grateful to him. I am very disappointed with Michigan’s treatment of John and would ask those in charge to reconsider.

It is tragic news to hear that Professor Rubadeau has been terminated by the university I know and love.
