Fight for the Rights of John Rubadeau

John Rubadeau is one of two professors that I can remember by name from my time at Michigan. And I can guarantee you, he is the only one that would remember mine if I walked in the door. I love the University of Michigan and can honestly say that this is the most disappointed I have ever been in my Alma Mater.

I can't imagine the University of Michigan without John. He is what makes the University of Michigan great and has impacted my life greatly. I would not be who I am today without John. Please reconsider this decision.

John Rubadeau was one of the most important professors I had in my time at U of M. The treatment by the administration of him is unconscionable; a professor of his stature deserves better treatment. Please, administration, salvage your credibility and reinstate this fine teacher.

John Rubadeau taught two people dear to me, and they revere him. Having met him, he's an intelligent, engaged, and delightful person. He's also very funny. He connects easily and readily with everyone he meets. Since the University is in the business of educating its students, I'd give their opinions more weight than I would to colleagues who are mysteriously disgruntled.

John was one of the best professors I had at U-M! He helped me improve my writing tremendously and helped me expand my linguistic and rhetorical horizons

I've learned so much from John it's hard to capture here. Above all, he has helped me be a better, more compassionate human being. He deserves fairness. His class is one of the defining classes that I was part of in my time at school. Please do him justice.

I’ve heard only very positive things About Johns teaching. Who has accused him?

It saddens me to see such a loyal employee, amazing asset to UofM and a friend be fired for "political" reasons. He is one of the most dedicated and interesting educators I have had in my life, and if this is not important to UofM, they have terrible priorities.

Plain and simple, John changes people's lives for the better. Obviously, we only have the information we have, but if the University did indeed fire John based on minor complaints from colleagues, they need to re-examine his termination. I am confident John would happily adjust any behavior his colleagues found disagreeable if it meant he could continue teaching. School is, after all, for the students — and like I said, John changes all of his students' lives for the better.

I am very disappointed to hear that my beloved professor and friend was terminated! I have nothing but good things to say about John. The Deans at Michigan should seriously reconsider their decision !

Class of 2014

John tops my list of professors after 10.5 total years of college, which culminated in a Pharm.D. degree at U of M. I took his class in 1990 and have never forgotten his teachings or forgotten that experience. I fear the University is shooting itself in the foot with this course of action and I know students will be worse off not being able to take his class.

John was, hands down, my best teacher throughout my time in Michigan – many can avow this. His lessons, wether of the English language or of life, have been invaluable to hundreds of students. Let John teach!

I took John’s Advanced Essay Writing class and it was by far the best class I took during my four years at the University of Michigan

John didn't just teach us English. He taught us about life and how to make the most of it. He was the best professor I had, and his class left a profound impact on me and others. He better have been fired for a damn good reason. With such little information, it's hard for me to make that determination, but from what I've heard, I'm betting that the reason is not good enough. I hope Umich will recognize the void that will be left without John and take a hard look at their reasons for firing such an inspiring figure.

John has been an incredible asset to this university, and he remains one of the best lecturers I've had to date. There's not much to say that hasn't already been said, but know that we stand behind you, John.

Best professor ever!!

The only class that mattered to me (in truth) and the only class that still informs me is my time with John. A university without teachers like John Rubadeau is a neutered thing - unchallenging and without substance.

John Rubadeau was a life changing professor for me. He has served thousands of students with love and kindnesses and respect. I’m appalled by the actions of the university. I hope they rescind the decision by the English department, and give future students the same opportunity to have a life changing teacher. ~ Krishan ‘06
