This would be a travesty. The shop staff have a great deal of expertise and knowledge about their stock which is invaluable to everyone who shops there. They were extremely helpful during my degree.

A good Art and Design School in any reputable University should have a well stocked art shop with knowledgeable staff.

It’s an institution in its own right, brilliant advice and stock, so well informed and great to keep coming back to for my art essentials since my degree. Where else to go for them!!

You’ve already cut so much of the funding for art courses, leave the art shop alone!

Having knowledgeable staff in the art shop is vital to all of the creative courses. They know the products inside out and they're advise is as crucial as any tutor or technician on campus. Im not exaggerating when I say I couldn't have got through the 4 years without the help of Jo and Jim!! This isn't a basic retail job that just anyone could walk into, a greater understanding of creative processes and products is essential

They were really helpful when I needed card for something outside of uni (and I don’t even do an art subject!)

This means a lot not just to my daughter but also to other students within the art and design courses at staffs uni both past, present and future. Art and Design plays a significant part in our world today and in the future, hearing that funds are slowly being withdrawn from that side of the courses at staffs uni is heartbreaking, you do not know if you have a budding Picasso, Van Gogh, de Vinci, Warhol etc in your midst that could make staffs uni stand out in history! And it would not only be those within the lecture rooms or those tutoring the students that got them there it’s also those who work within the art shop because of their expert knowledge they are able to understand and advice the students on what they need as they go in to purchase materials, if somebody who worked there that didn’t have that knowledge would wrongly advice the student and that would not be fair.

Jo and Jim provide an essential service to the creative arts community at Staffordshire University and in doing so deliver a big part of the student experience. It is a selling point of the university on open days. It was only a few years ago there position was under threat, and when asked, they tightened their belts and did everything that was asked of them to make their service better and more profitable. To offer their positions to other people without the knowledge, understanding and haven't added to shop in the past seems very harsh. These individuals have stood up to the challenges presented them and overcome them. I back them 100%

The Art shop plays such a huge part on my course and student life. I am able to purchase photo paper on campus, any studio accessories I need urgently as I would be photographing in the studio like masking tap are literally just around the corner. But also as a student who finds painting therapeutic and calming, it’s great to have an accessible store with staff members who are not just knowledgeable but brilliant and friendly. They make my experience that much sweeter!

As a past student from the art and design department of the uni. I can vouch for the mount of help that both jo and jim provide. And while others from other departments may be as willing to help they simply will not have the knowlage and technical know how to do the job that is already being fantasticly done. It would be a mistake for jo and jim to not retain their roles and would not only effect the students and impact on their support but it would also reflect baddly on the uni. Once again showing a clear lack of support for the arts and design courses. There is not enough support as there is. Jo and jims knowlage and support is somthing the students can not afford to lose.

The Art Shop got closed at a local College too, big mistake.
