This shop is very much needed and is totally a requirement when we did our surface design degree. This happening for a second time proves the university cares very little for art and design subjects and this resource no longer being available will cause students to consider alternative universities in the future.

The art shop is THE hub of the Art School at Staffs Uni and I was fortunate enough to to be able to use this valuable resource as an undergrad and then throughout my time as a colleague working at the school. Jo and Jim are highly knowledgeable but further than this they are invested in the arts and to the students and their studies. On many occasions they have supported the students in their hour of need in ways that goes well beyond the call of duty and many graduates of the school will remember fondly their friendly approach. Surely the current student cohort deserve the same? It is misguided in the extreme if the university allow this dedicated team to be squandered.

The Art Shop, and by extension Joe & Jim, are an essential service and an important part of the student experience. Many students and staff outside of the creative courses use it. What is the University doing to market the Art Shop externally to local people and sixth form students??

That art shop was a key part of my course, they always had what I needed and were able to help make practical suggestions if they didn't.

Please keep the Art Shop open and run by its current staff. If you need it to make more money, advertise it on the website - and that woukd be free apart from the few minutes to set up the ad.

I have used the art shop over 8 years as a student and a member of the public. Jo and Jim have always been very friendly, helpful and very knowledgable. To have them replaced by people who may have people skills but the lack of subject expertise is beyond comprehension. Yet again the creative sector of industry takes a hit. When will people wake up and realise the importance of having the right people (Jo and Jim in this instance) in the right place doing the job they have the skills in?

The Art Shop is vital for students studying for their degrees. At times it can be extremely difficult to get to off site shops selling art supplies as a lot of students don’t drive, or have part time jobs after their lectures. It often means that off site art shops are closed or unavailable and makes it incredibly difficult to get what you need without the use of the Art Shop at the University campus. Throughout my degree I used the shop and so many times, it helped with projects and is especially useful towards hand-in deadlines when things can get stressful, or you unexpectedly/accidentally run out of supplies. It would be a huge shame to lose this facility and should be seen as a nessecity NOT a luxury or something that can be sacrificed. It is vital to art students and their degrees.

This is absolutely disgusting! A university that prides itself on art shouldnt even have to consider dropping such an integral part of the campus.
