You people vote for this. You thought because you think that your above everyone else that it could not happen to you. Well surprise , this has been happening for years in other neighborhoods. Where is your compassion & liberal attitudes now that, it is in your neighborhood

After all New York City has been through and risen above in my lifetime, it is truly a shame that a buffoon like Bill DeBlasio is tearing it all down. With a single uninformed, ignorant decision - placing hundreds of mentally ill, active drug addicts and registered sex offenders in an 8-square-block community overwhelmingly composed of families with children, he has exponentially increased the devastation this pandemic has already reaped upon the Upper West Side. Restaurants, grocery stores, nail salons, news stands, retail stores, and so many other businesses reeling from the pandemic are now forced to grapple with with active drug deals in the storefronts, human defecation next to their diners, and a mass exodus of loyal patrons, divesting the neighborhood of the monetary support it desperately needs to recover from the effects of the pandemic. Women, children, and the elderly are harassed and attacked. Families are fleeing, most never to return. Mr. Mayor, you must do better. Don’t just drop these people in luxury hotels and wash your hands of responsibility for getting them the help they actually need. You are actively destroying one of the most culturally rich communities in New York City, if it hasn’t already been set back 10-20 years. You, sir, are a disgrace.

Unsafe and unfair for the folks who work incredibly hard to pay a premium to live in a safe place. Whether people should need to pay a premium to feel safe is a separate issue; the bottom line is most times, they do. It is grossly unfair to drop almost 1,000 people into a once safe and vibrant community overnight when many of them have drug addiction, alcohol addiction, or mental illness that make them a danger to all of us, and to themselves, frankly. These people need treatment and coaching / work placement; to warehouse them in hotels and largely walk away is shameful.
