I agree that the homeless men should be moved out of the shelters and into apts or hotels for their safety against Covid. However their well being should NOT be prioritized over the safety of the families that pay to reside on the UWS. We chose this neighborhood because its family oriented, safe and relatively clean. We have had enough stress with the pandemic, school closings, looting, curfews, loss of quality of life due to restrictions on most daily activities as well as covid related sickness and death of family and friends. Despite all of this, some of us chose not to flee the UWS and remain dedicated to support OUR neighborhood. That is right - it’s OUR neighborhood where our kids go to school, where we support the local businesses and where we have built our lives. This is the last straw and alternative arrangements must be made ASAP by the Mayor and whoever made this careless decision before the streets of the UWS deteriorate further, more businesses are destroyed and more the residents permanently leave.

I came home for 36 hours with my family after staying w family during the pandemic, and in 36 hours I was followed while getting bagels (on 78 and Amsterdam) at 9 am, harassed by two men at 5pm (on 77 th and bway) while I was walking home from the park with my 7 year old son, and witnessed a group of four men exchange wads of cash moments later (on 79 and bway). That evening while packing our car we saw bottles of urine on the curbs (80th and bway). This is not sustainable.

While I understand the needs of the homeless and respect that those who do not have permanent shelter need help, moving a large concentration of single homeless men into a residential area is a recipe for problems, many of which have already occurred. Pls seek alternate housing both for the men and local residents’ benefits.

NYC landscape is being transformed for bad by the mix of covid and poor government leadership. It took years for our wonderful city to become the great and cosmopolitan urbe that we knew until a few years ago, when things started to change. The past 5 months have shown a rapid deterioration of our city. The latest relocation of homeless, drug addicts, sex offenders and inmates into hotels and other non-adequate buildings in our neighborhood is bringing a great amount of problems and insecurity to our streets, which puts all residents in danger. I have been followed in more than 2 occasions by people in the street, I have seen used syringes, condoms and tampons in our streets and even on Central Park.
I am signing this petition because our government needs to fix this situation and relocate all this people to places and facilities qualified to treat their situation, places where they can receive humanitarian, psychological and reintegration treatment but where they do not put us all in danger.

This will send a message not to bring businesses and tourists here. I do not know how we can help
the homeless but ruining a nice neighborhood cannot be the way to do it.

I continue to be in a state of disbelief as to what is happening to our city and our neighborhood. During a pandemic it’s as if decisions are being made that continue to push us to the brink, disregarding the health and well being of residents and business trying desperately to survive. The Mayor is a disgrace and each decision seems to be worse than the last. You cannot have three hotel shelters with “recovering” drug addicts and sex offenders within a ten block radius near a school and expect a positive result.

Please move these men to a more suitable shelter. I have to navigate these very blocks to get my two young daughters to elementary and middle school every day. We are adjusting to the overwhelming idea of getting them to school during the COVID-19 Pandemic... now the fear of having to avoid street brawls, drug deals, no mask. It’s beyond concerning. Please help them to find alternative safe shelters.

We support homeless housing in moderation but what is happening in the 70s 80s and 90s is overwhelming the neighborhood.
