We need your help fighting to get our mural done at J&K Paints & Pixels! We started to paint our mural of Rosie the Riveter on the wall on the back of our building, (with our landlord's permission) but the City shut us down, threatening us with a fine and jail time. There are new regulations, (which the majority of business owners here were not aware of) about murals and a lot of paperwork to submit, but we can't even submit that paperwork for approval until July 15th. So, we're just asking the City to let us submit our paperwork now for approval. One of the major complaints about it was that some people thought she was making an obscene gesture, so we want to finish it so those people can see what it truly is-which is an iconic woman from World War II who is a national symbol of strength and endurance. PLEASE SIGN IF YOU ARE IN FAVOR OF US FINISHING OUR MURAL NOW!

I fully support this sign and the studio. Both empower women , which is not offensive
Art is the freedom of expression. Let these wonderful artists create meaningful and lasting works of art for all to enjoy.
I don't mean to be flippant about this, but I find it absurd that anyone in a moderately conservative small town would find Rosie the Riveter, a rallying symbol of our united efforts during the War, a politically divisive symbol. I understand trying to preserve the historic nature of our downtown district, but public art like this only serves to improve our public spaces. If the owner of the building has no issues with this well executed art, perhaps some other property owners should mind their business; better yet, they could do things to improve their own properties, many of which in downtown could use some serious attention.
My 11 year old daughter just learned about Rosie the Riveter and I think this would be a great mural for York!
Please allow this mural to go on! What a shame that the power that be in York would stop a mural of such a powerful and inspiring female figure.
This supports strong women. Get with it york,sc. Come out of the dark ages.
