The Miami Herald finally listened and Leonard Pitts is no longer employed by the paper. It feels surreal to know we successfully held them accountable for that shameful column. Keep your eyes open because we never want to see that kind of disrespect for victims repeated again.
On June 1, 2007, the Miami Herald published commentary entitled \'Oppressed\' whites Give me a Break\' by columnist Leonard Pitts, Jr.
Pitts\' piece can read at this address:
http://www.miamiherald.com/285/story/125806.html
Mr. Pitts outrageous language and disdainful dismissal of citizens\' need for justice for the brutal murders of Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom. His disregard of these two tragic vitims, and their families (AND the Central Park Jogger !!) will not be tolerated, and no double-standard of fairness will be accepted. We, the American public, demand Pitts\' immediate, permanent, and irrevocable dismissal. No other resolution will bring satisfaction. Pitts needs to pay for his error, and he needs to lose his job.
Sign our petition, and let the Miami Herald, and their corporate parent, the McClatchy Company, know how you feel.
What\'s fair is Fair! We are NOT going to accept this kind of hateful, offensive, and racist diatribe in the forum of the Miami Herald.
The Miami Herald must FIRE Leonard Pitts, Jr. NOW!
Seeing this momentum grow confirms that I am not alone in my outrage over the way these tragic victims were dismissed. The refusal to accept this double standard is exactly why I started this fight.

I have been sending these signatures directly to the editors at the Miami Herald every single day. The silence from their office is loud but it only proves why we need to keep pushing for accountability.

We are grinding toward that first hundred signatures and the momentum is building. I need everyone who feels the sting of this injustice to push this link out to their networks right now so we can force the Miami Herald to acknowledge our demand.

He needs to go. The double standard is obvious to anyone with half a brain. McClatchy needs to wake up.

This guy is a hack and his views are toxic. The Herald should be ashamed to keep him on the payroll. Bye bye leonard.
