Mayor, City of Folsom We, cricket players, request you to provide us one or more playing grounds to play cricket. We can either use the either baseball playing ground or a dedicated cricket ground. There are several thousand cricket enthusiasts that have made Folsom their home & we do not have a place to practice the sport we love. Cricket is a bat-and-ball sport contested by two teams, usually of eleven players each.[1] A cricket match is played on a grass field, roughly oval in shape, in the center of which is a flat strip of ground 22 yards (20.12 m) long, called a cricket pitch. A wicket, usually made of wood, is placed at each end of the pitch. [source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cricket ] Recently we have come across a disturbing trend. We are keep getting kicked out from what have been proclaimed to be public parks by the parks & recreation department. On calling the parks & recreation department we are told that all the public parks are first come first serve & if we are the first people to get out there - 7am Saturday morning - then unless someone has a reservation we have the right to play there as long as we wish. We usually vacate the field as a courtesy but are getting tired of the constant harassment. In Folsom you have a public park in almost residential areas. Mostly they consist of baseball fields, soccer fields etc. - for ex. the additions that are going on to the Livermore Park - paid for by our taxes. We hereby petitioning the city to have a cricket field either dedicated or as part of some other field where we the residents of Folsom can practice without having the face the typical harassment that we do.

The Parks and Recreation Department cannot ignore this momentum any longer. They keep telling us we have a right to the fields while their staff continues to harass us for playing. We are taking this surge of energy straight to the Mayor to demand the space we pay for with our own taxes.

Ridiculous that we have to fight for space. My kids just want a place to bowl and practice on the weekend. We pay taxes too!

Let them play. Folsom has plenty of fields just sitting empty half the time. It is a great sport and way more fun than sitting indoors.
