The food was great when I was there (1978--1982). It can be great again. What happened to our chef from th Culinary Institute of America? Don't we have some alums in the catering and restaurant business who could help and advise? Please ask them -- we all want SBC to thrive and for the new leadership to succeed beyond our wildest imaginations.

Let's return SBC food offering to its onetime excellence. Why? It matters for student health, school reputation, and because its just the right thing to do

When I was at SBC ten years ago, the food was of a far superior quality. In the old administrations misguided attempts to "save money" they replaced our dining services with Aramark, a company of substandard morals and more than dubious quality. They have recently been called out for feeding prisoners, maggots, spoiled food and garbage. These are not the kind of people SBC should be doing business with. SBC has limited dining options and as such high quality nutritious food is extremely important. This is a great opportunity to reinstate our proper dining services. We could use some of our land to grow sustainable fruits and veggies to feed students, which would help cut costs and increase quality. Let's make SBC dining services 2.0 a model for the collegiate industry.

Nutrition is SO important to a growing body and mind. Sweet Briar needs quality food and service like we used to have in the 1970s. The local community has stood by us for over 100 years now we need to reestablish this connection and hire local for SBC dining and food services.

Sweet Briar has the land to take back the endeavor to provide a portion of food....great, healthy food, for its students. Granted, some things need to be outsourced, but I think contracting with someone or a group that can source, plan, provide and deliver wonderful, healthy meals.....this is what needs to happen for this newly resurrected SBC

I recommend they consult with SBC Beth Richmond Hyder. She is Director of Catering at Glenmore Country Club in Charlottesville and her expertise will be valuable input to decision making process.

The food was excellent when I attended and we need to bring back the beautiful/healthy food that matches the beautiful campus with the excellent education!

I sincerely hope that the new administration will review the in house proposal. It's absolutely critical that the dining hall become the social forum which it used to be before Aramark, and good, well-prepared food is the catalyst which makes that happen. It's a no-brainer.

As a 2007 Alumna, I can say that the food was great when I was at Sweet Briar. Having good, fresh, healthy food is a huge deciding factor for some prospective students. We had a lot of variety when I was a student and we loved theme nights, such as Fruit and Cheese night! Thank you for considering this.

A positive dining experience is an important element of the SBC experience overall and helped build community across a century. Please consider what is possible in this regard going forward.

Please get rid of Jo Ellen's toxic legacy by letting Kevin Phelps (who I think puts cheese on too many things and I've told him so) back in the kitchen. Aramark has been kicked out of prisons-- don't let our vixens eat prison food.

I firmly believe that hiring Aramarl to provide food was part of the attempt to sabotage Sweet Briar. The former food service staff members were warm, friendly, and related so well to the students. This in my professional opinion as a father of a Sweet Briar alum and health care professional is extremely important in providing the atmosphere & proper setting which befit the young women who attend, graduate, and later represent Sweet Briar College.

Good food means better quality of life. Please bring back the former local staff and it is a win-win for Sweet Briar and the community. I am a parent of a SBC alumni and we loved eating in Prothro.

Yes Go Sweet go. No more feeding my students on the Department budget or my own for that matter. I mean I will continue to cook and bake for our students, but not because I feel that they are starving or being malnourished.

Some of my happiest times were lingering in the Refectory or Glass after a rather good meal - '75-'79. In this new era of our beloved college, it's only right to provide as good a dining experience as the college is able.

I loved the food when I was at Sweet Briar. It was a deciding factor in which college I selected to attend. I miss the cows and fresh yogurt and staff that made me special breakfasts as I recovered from mono freshman year (needed bland food). When I was making fundraising calls earlier in July, I spoke to a parent of a freshman that attended Sweet Briar last year who asked pointed questions about the food (and other things). This parent told me point blank that her child did not want to return to Sweet Briar if we kept the Aramark food service.
