Aramark has provides sub-standard food service at Sweet Briar for way too long. For eight years, I held a week-long seminar on campus, and the food service during theyears that Aramark provided it were appalling. Many of my guests resorted to the Briar Patch instead. Get RID of Aramark!

As a student athlete from 2007-2011 running three a days during preseason, and with early morning travel schedules during the school year, I cannot stress enough how important it is to have a food service team who will work with you. The can-do attitude of sweet briar's previous team was phenomenal, I admit we didn't know how good we had it until they were abruptly replaced by Aramark. Please tell Aramark: Thanks but No Thanks! And re-recruit our much loved team who really cared about the quality of service they provided to their sweet briar community.

The only way to be a successful and energized Vixen, is to have many balanced, and healthy meal options available at every meal time. It's a no-brainer. Hire people to cook for the students who show interest and talking to the staff about what they need.

Hopefully SBC will bring back the local community to prepare food for the College. Food served during the Reunion Weekend was just not acceptable. Breakfasts, lunches and Friday nite. Although Saturday's event was nicely done.

I attended Sweet Briar from 1996 through 2000, and the food was fantastic! I was so proud to attend an institution that served excellent food, and that I did not have the stereotypical cafeteria experience. I never gained weight in college -- in fact, I lost weight -- because our diet was so well-selected, well-balanced, and delicious, and I had no need to go in search of restaurant food. Sweet Briar was the first place at which I had beef wellington -- what corporate food service will provide that to college students? And, when my parents came to visit, they WANTED to eat in Prothro. I don't think any parent would say that today. Please bring back the quality food. It IS Sweet Briar.

We do not do things half way. Continuing the present horrendous food is an insult to the students and ALL of us. It's an embarrassment.
I trust President Stone will do the right thing and get it done!

Although it's been many years since I was a student, I can say that food and dining services definitely played a role in choosing a college. I was accepted to several schools, and was able to visit all but one. One of my choices (some would argue the most prestigious one) had mediocre service, and bland food. It may seem silly, but if I (or my parents) am paying to live in a place for a set number of years and will eat the majority of my meals on that campus, then the quality of dining services and food is going to play a role. I did not go to the university with the mediocre food, because I couldn't imagine myself using my meal plan often enough to make it worth the while. SBC, on the other hand, had outstanding food. Some was simple fare, some was quite elaborate, but everything was quality food. There were always options, even if I didn't enjoy a particular dish being served at one meal or another. The salad bar was always fresh and full of tasty veggies; the cereal bar had a variety of offerings, etc.
When I was a student, our meal plan did not have a limit, as the ones today do. I did not have to swipe a card or worry about adding money to my account. I understand that this is now one of those things that happens. If I had a meal plan today, and the food were as good as it was when I was a student (class of 2002 here), I would be begging my parents to sign me up for the largest plan possible, because I ate 3 meals a day in Prothro for the vast majority of my time at SBC. I enjoyed the food campus dining services offered up, and my friends who visited from other colleges enjoyed it, too.
Having eaten at SBC more recently, the quality did seem to me to have dropped. The staff were just as friendly and courteous as I remembered, but the food itself was nothing to get excited over. It was standard cafeteria fare, something that SBC had never settled for in the past (assuming I am not just looking back through the lens of nostalgia).

In my time at SBC, I was appalled at the food... at all of the schools my friends attended! Being a small rural college, food is Super Important; if you don't like it, you can't just walk down the street and pick something up. Make Prothro a source of Vixen Pride again. Thank you!

At the heart of Sweet Briar is the sense of love for all members of our community. These were not simply employees, they were devoted and committed Sweet Briar family. If we are to truly bring Sweet Briar back from the brink, we must include these remarkable individuals.
