The main purpose for this petition is my encounter with Federal educational assistance after filing a FAFSA (Federal Application For Student Aid). I am married, and both my husband and I work. We have no children. My husband works a full-time job, and I work part-time when school is in session. I wish to finish an Associate\'s Degree with Certification in Veterinary Technology (A nurse of Veterinary science, if you will). I have been denied for a Federal Loan beause we have too much money in savings, which is calculated into money to be used for school(obviously the goverment doesn\'t want us to save money for our future). I have been denied a Pell Grant. Why Because the criteria for a Pell Grant (after income guidelines) if you are married requires to to have a child. Now wait a minute. I am being told that I can\'t get aid becuase I decided that having a child would NOT be a good idea I am being a responsible citizen, by living within my means and not forcing a child onto an overburdened welfare system. But a person that just doesn\'t use birth control, and gets pregnant, and lives in the income bracket for a Pell Grant (a very low bracket) deserves a free education Why is the government reward people that are making very poor financial decisions Please sign this petition in hopes to change requirements for the Pell Grant, or perhaps to create a new Grant, available for married people who choose to not have children and would like a college education!
