PREVENT DEVASTATING LOSS OF SERVICES FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES We the families, community providers, support coordinators, advocates and individuals with developmental disabilities of this state, urgently request the Florida Legislature to approve at least $75 million from the state Rainy Day fund to cover the gaping deficit in the Agency for Persons with Disabilities budget, prevent the devastating loss of critical and necessary services for day-to-day living and provide services to people languishing on the waiting list. The deficit -- about $150 million -- threatens to force cuts in critical and vital services for some of the state most vulnerable citizens. The drastic cost cutting measures being considered will mean that thousands of individuals may be forced into more costly care; thousands of individuals who live independently may lose their homes; and thousands of families may be unable to keep their loved ones at home. For years, families, advocates, individuals with developmental disabilities and community providers have been calling for a valid assessment process and a predictable cost-model using a reasonable set of services as long-term solutions to correct the developmental disabilities program and waiver system. Now more than ever, these recommendations need to be implemented but without severe cuts to current services. PLEASE NOTE: After you have entered the required information, you may be asked for a donation by our petition\'s host site. THIS IS TOTALLY VOLUNTARY AND YOU DO NOT NEED TO MAKE A DONATION.
