I currently work as a TA in the Arts college, where I make just over $8,000/year, a significant amount below the current poverty line. I am not supposed to maintain outside employment, yet I must work three other jobs to afford basic needs in my area. I may not be 'starving,' but my education has come at a great cost.

I am an international student and I could tell that life hasn't been so rosy due to the high cost of living around campus, low stipends and high tuition fees, despite all my inputs as a teaching assistant, research and other extra-curricular activities in contribution to development of the school community.

New Ph.D. student in FAU. Compared with my master school, also located in small city, FAU offer much lower assistantship! The house rent will cost almost one month salary. Can I lead a good life there???

I'm all for a more livable wage for these graduate students, but let's be realistic about the situation. No one attending a graduate program in the United States is "starving." Have some respect for yourselves and for those of us who haven't eaten in days.
