I teach an intro class at FAU which is alleviating the amount of money the school would be paying a professor/instructor. We do not get health care or reduced pricing on things at the university. We do not even receive the staff discounts at the food court!

I really love this university, but it needs to do more for its grad students. Other major universities in Florida provide health insurance and other benefits.

I'm a medical student. The inadequate budget caused me to be unable to match into a categorical residency position and I now have to take a preliminary position that may or may not result in a job the following year - and I'm $200,000 in debt. Additionally I had to stop attending my rotations to work, and nothing was done to address it. I would be thrilled to support your cause.

I have never seen such a bad treatment for grads students. Our students at university of puerto rico have much better benefits than those at fau!!

My three years as an FAU graduate student was the worst financial and health period of my life. I worked as a teaching assistant while working a part time job 15-20 hours/ week. That left me just enough time to do course work and research while forgoing healthy sleep and eating schedule and ignoring health issues to avoid accruing bills. I had no health insurance for a year because there was no way for me to afford it (i was already working 40hrs/week plus school and research responsibilities =60-70 hour work/school week).
My experience felt like indentured servitude. After that experience, I would not choose to pursue my PhD with FAU unless financial assistance for graduate students increases.

Poverty line in Palm Beach county is at $23,471 yearly wage for one adult (http://livingwage.mit.edu/counties/12099). Most of our graduate students live below this line. Many work very hard. They need help.

If FAU wants to thrive in an exponential rate then, it is utmost to take care of its graduate students who are taking care of so many pillars of FAU in a very very extreme hardship!! I hope this issue will be addressed shortly!

Oh, how much I wish this was not a topic, but this is the price that most Graduate student, like me, pay when continuing their education. Something has to be done, and it must be done now!
