We, the undersigned, support a proposed change in the City of Portsmouth zoning ordinance to make the keeping of farm animals in a Single Residence A (SRA) or Rural (R) District a Permitted use (changed from a Special Exception) under the criteria currently specified. We believe, that under the right circumstances and in the right space, the presence of farm animals in a residential area can add to the culture and quality of life of a neighborhood and reflect the core values on which the City was forged. Please help preserve the land rights of others while supporting a self sustaining, green way of life that has been all but lost from many areas of the city. Thank you for taking the time to consider this proposal.

I am still honestly stunned by how many of you resonate with the idea of keeping farm animals right here in our neighborhoods. People keep reaching out with stories about their own gardens and their vision for a greener Portsmouth, and it really shows that this conversation belongs to the entire community now.

Seeing this much momentum take hold is truly beyond anything I imagined when I first started this. It is clear that this vision belongs to all of you who stepped up to support our local farms. Thank you for showing that this matters to our town.

Stupid zoning laws holding us back. Should be allowed to have chickens if I have the space for them. Let us do it.

My kids love seeing the animals when we walk past the farm. It teaches them where food comes from instead of just the supermarket.

Keep government out of my backyard. Its my land and I should be able to keep a few goats if I want.

Yes! We need more people growing their own food and getting back to basics. It makes the neighborhood so much nicer.
