I agree that FDW need an off to relax themself from work, but don understand y we still need to be responsible for their wrong actions or doings. It's like whatever thing / accident happen during our off day does it mean that our company is responsible for it?

Employers are required to pay a levy and a minimum salary. On top of that, should the FDW choose to leave the job, we have to bear all expenses of sending them back and sometimes forfeiting our agency fee (which can amount to nearly $1,000 depending on the nationality of the FDW).
I do not begrudge paying these FDW a salary. What I resent is that the Agencies and FDWs are not equally penalized if the FDWs decide to leave the job before the two year contract ends. The Employer bears ALL the burden when the Agency is responsible for recruiting these FDWs. Frankly, even the minimum salary is a small issue if the government can resolve this terrible inequity. If the Agencies and FDWs are equally penalized, they would not look at changing jobs so easily. And I would be willing to pay the minimum salary if it means that they will work hard for me.

The government should consider the welfare of employer instead of focusing and improving the welfare of FDW. Government encourage us to give birth (to boost up the birth rate), we did. But we have issue when comes to care for our children as in SG it will be difficult to survive if only 1 parent is working therefore we are force to be working mom. We pay a huge fee to hire FDW to care for our children (who would want others to care for their children if they can) but we lives in fear that FDW will harm our family. We open our heart to accept them but in returns we gets worst than nothing. There is a lot of negative news on employer treating the FDW but if really to focus, the % of FDW doing nasty stuffs is higher. FDW looking after elderly, ended up elderly was being left at a side while the FDW do their own stuffs. Please Government, look at your citizens and do the wise decisions.

Hope the authorities will implement rules that are fairer to employers. Currently employers tend to be at the losing end if they employ a FDW who is not good, and creates trouble or want to change employer.

I also have two terrible maids experience. The first one was from Vietnam, is really a shocking to me. Lie about her age, her identity might not be truth and also her qualification as well. She hurts my baby boy who just 3 month old. Due to milk too hot. Already did train and show her how to use it. Also ensure she can understand the instruction by asking her showing me how to use the milk warmer machine. Not just this issue, even the steam iron, that maid also cannot follow. I was very patient and willingly to give a chance to anyone who came from other country to Singapore in work. But this lady could just cause my baby went to hospital for a week due to poor feeding. Inner Throat was scared. It took me alot of month to claim myself down as this was my first baby.
Than the second one was a blessing for the 2years 6 month. SHe was really very nice, love my children as well. I like her so much cos she really care for my kids and also do the house work up to my aspectation. But as years goes by, we have been very generous, increase her pay and also additional money and some tablets, toys and clothes give and buy her new ones as well. She had her home built by our help as well. She should show apprecation by not creating gossip and also stays clear from my husband. She began less patience for my kids. Also start to hit them. even have scratches too. Although we know it was an accident. But is too obvious, the number of accident. Keeps appearing. Also my kids getting naughter too. Than one day, I found out the clips I bought for my daughter is getting lesser and lesser. Lots of item is messy and missing too. So I pack my room while my daughter is been with my husband. While I was packing and sorting. I did ask the philipino maid to help to seach for it. It seems she did not understand what I want. She was trying to take back clips and ribbon from my daughter, but without claiming and taming my baby girl who just touch down 2years. She made my baby girl cry and scre

Had terrible experiences with all my maids though they were treated like family. When they dnt feel like working they just up and leave and my family suffers. I have to go on a mad craze if taking urgent leave to look after 3 young kids and ayop my studies etc. I totaly cannot agree with the fact that these maids want to go home and we hv to buy the flight ticket. Thats really ridiculous. And we spend thousands to agents to employ them and end up they dnt complete the 2 years and we lose all our $. They shld be made to pay back if they want to leave. Its us employers time training them and our hard earned money that goes down the drain..the money spent on these maids will go to good use for our kids education. MOM has to rrally wake up and see what is happening and dnt blindly support these maids who come here for a jolly time and hv nothing to lose. As long as they dnt stand to lose anything by changing employers as abd when they wish and dnt get penalised for this they will continue abusing employers.

The laws in Singapore clearly protect the FDWs and neglects about the Employer.
If the government want to encourage mothers to join back the workforce, and when we need to hire FDWs to look after our kids, there must be some laws that protect us when the FDW misbehave. However it is always otherwise.
We are at the mercy of these FDWs whose objectives had changed from yester-years. We are at the mercy of FDWs who threaten us that they want to change employers, demand their rights and gives us poor attitudes etc. After a long day at work, we go home and face the bad attitude of the FDWs. Who are we to go to, if the FDW gives us bad attitude or problem. They can simply goes to their Embassy, but how about us? Our current avenue seems only a police report when they break the laws. But how about those that do not falls under the category of "offences" but giving us the mental stress? If DFWs has mental stress and can goes to agency or embassy, how about us?
I give up. I am sending my FDW home when her work permit expire. I would rather go through the physical stress than the mental stress.

Agency provide employers to choose maids by providing bio data. Employer has to bear the cost of airticket, insurance , bond and documentation fees. As employers, we are depending on luck to find a suitable one. Why can't employers have a trial period with 2 weeks as childcare centre? My previous maid has communication problem. Not willing to take care of my children , does not know how to manage household chores and do cooking. But the bio data provide to us are all fake. I don't understand who can employers seek help from? Frankly speaking we are having mental stress to have an outsider around too. But in Singapore now, if no elders can help us to take care of our young children. We can only seek help to get a maid. We hope Government do something to help us instead of increasing the salary of FDWs.

Totally agree with the petition. We treated out FDWs well, ate what we ate, given proper rests, even bringing them to holiday with us when they were with us for less than six months then and this was how we were repaid:
1. Discovered Detergent in our baby milk bottles and kid's water bottle.
2. Rummaged and read our documents and letters. Even have the audacity to ask who is this person and that person in our letters.
3. Targetted and stole from our children's coin banks which were meant to teach our children on money management. The FDW confessed to the crime. I made a police report and sent to MOM to blacklist this FDW but MOM did not do so.
4. Started boiling water in a kettle on the stove and left the house for 2 hours! The FDW almost burnt my house down!
5. Too engrossed with her mobile phone until she didn't even realise the pot of rice overboiled and was spilling out even though she was just leaning next to the stove.
6. Left my child home alone even though she was specifically told to look after him. She left immediately after I walked out of the house.
7. Unauthorised access into our host's wifi using stolen passwords by rummaging though our hosts' personal items during our stay overseas. Totally embarrassing.
8. Completely unaware that our children had left the Swimming pool for at least 10 mins as she was too too engrossed with her hp. She was entrusted to look after the children then. But we placed another pair of eyes as we knew no matter what we could never entrusted our children's lives totally to a hopeless FWD.
9. Asked for advanced pay several times, which we gave due to her lack of money when she first started work. When her subsequent requests for advance were refused, she stole from our children. And accused me for not paying her weekly salary. I had to pull out the contract and asked her to read out loud to get things straight. The contract said monthly salary and she has been paid on monthly basis promptly. She was not remorsefu
