My last maid left after 1 year. Told my Mother that she came here to work because her bf break off with her and she wanted to take a break. But once she heard from her friends that back her home there are better opportunities, she immediately said she wanted to go home. Leaving me and my hubby to take care of ourselves and our 3 kids. She is taking us for a ride. We, the employers, shouldn't be treated in this way. We genuinely wanted to have a helper so that we can concentrate in our work, but most maid just come here, treat it like holiday and when they are bored, then wanted to go back home. Then we how?? Govt really hv to look into protecting us, the employers, as well!

MOM needs to strengthen its regulations not only for FDW AND AGENCIES. But more on the employers perspectives as well. Looking at the difficulties the employers are going through because of certain difficult helpers.

Why should we be 'bullied' just becos we need them ? 90% of us treated FDW as family but 90% of the FDW treated us as 'carrot head 菜头'. Chop chop chop !!! Please protect us !

I strongly agree that gov should look into protecting the interests of employers of Fdw. These Fdw nowadays are taking their jobs too lightly; they can just leave your family out of a sudden without giving any notice. I'm one such victim whereby I have to quit my job when my Fdw who was the main caregiver of my baby left. To add on, maid agencies & recent rules & regulations seem to be working against employers. I have come across maid agencies who brainwashed Fdw to change employer on the pretext of higher salary just to make more money out from them. In a nutshell, employers (esp those with young kids / elderly) are left at the mercy of these Fdw.

Yes, I strongly agree that the govt should look into this. they are very clever and know the loopholes. The FDW are given and provided helps, accommodation, foods and works when they make a report against we employer when they are in the wrong. Worst the FDW are so well protected by our govt. MOM will just ask tell you that you are not allow to get any FDW until investigation are over. We, the employer who are wrongly being accused of. Have to find our own help, clear up all the mess that are left behind and in danger of losing our job. We are mentally and physically stress while the FDW enjoy themselves in SIN!!! Where is the protection for employer? Please be fair to us? Why we have to suffer in silence and not getting any help fm the govt? Worst, if they run away when they suppose to leave sin. I was shock to hear fm the police officer that they run away is not an offence. Just because they run away from agent / home and go mom to accuse the employer. MOM just refers the case to the police with the FDW 1 side of the story. Is this how it suppose to be? Why we employer are not given a chance to speak up and defend for ourselves.! Why is it that the FDW are not consider an overstayed / illegal immigrant in sin when they are suppose to leave sin! Worst, they are given special pass for them to stay while investigation are ongoing. They cont. to work and enjoy while we suffer. All we employer just have to find our own solution / helps and wait for a long time before our name are clear from accuse of abuse. Seriously, I really hope the govt can see our petition and sent the message across to these FDW who are not seriously in working in SIN. They should be given punishment, jail, sent back to their country and not allow to enter to Singapore anymore if the FDW are find to be responsible for the wrong behaviors and bad attitude they have. We don't need such FDW in SIN.

Please be fair to employers who give FDW trust to take care of our young children while we are away at work.
We keep paying for all sorts of things (agency fees, insurance, etc) but in return we have no Employer Rights or Consumer Rights. We had been exploited but nobody protect us despite so many reported cases in papers or online platform.

In addition to the salary increases mentioned by the creator of the petition, there are a number of challenges currently being faced by employers of FDWs in Singapore.
1. The cost of the repatriation of an FDW is always borne by the employer regardless of the reason. If an FDW is incapable of doing the job, is unwilling to do the job or has even stolen from the employer or abused those in her care, the employer is still responsible for bearing the cost of her ticket home. These costs should be borne by the FDW herself or by the agent.
In addition, employers are often left in a situation where they have to allow such FDWs to be transferred to another unsuspecting employer otherwise they stand to lose a large sum of money in loan payments and additional agency fees. No employer wants to do this but when they face the prospect of losing more than a thousand dollars in some cases, of having to wait several months for a new maid and then training her, what choice do they really have?
We do need to tread carefully as there are some maids who are not suited to one household but may work out in another so I will admit that it is not cut and dried. For example, my current maid claims that she requested a transfer from her previous employer after 2 months because she nagged too much. I suspect that the previous employer returned her to the agency for whatever reason. However, if you ask my husband he will say that she is the best maid that we have ever had. These maids need to be given another chance but if they really don't want to work, refuse to learn or are dishonest then they should be on the next plane home.
2. The two-year contract signed by FDW is not being honored or taken seriously. Of course, we all understand that there are cases when family circumstances change and the FDW needs to return home but there are too many of them who just decide they want to go home or request a transfer to move to a "better" employer before completing the contract. The current law overly protects the maid. There's no balance for the employer and this is stopping us to employ a helper!
