Why settle for a petiton? It is time to have a FDW employer association to empower employers and to offer collective inputs to other stakeholders. Furthermore, a non-profit organisation can be a vehicle for dealing with and seeking redress from, employment agents and FDWs. Unity is strength! It is time to act - Malaysian employers have their association since 2011! In fact, employers the world over need to unite - the problems we face in Singapore are being experienced elsewhere. I see the association can even the single stop for sourcing and managing FDWs for employer members thereby bypassing the employment agents. The association can also help members in other allied areas such as childcare, elder care, etc. all of which are hot-button issues in our daily lives. Let's have the resolve to not just rant about the problems but to unite so that other stakeholders would take us seriously and give us a seat at the table in formulating policies and making decisions. Let's help ourselves rather than hoping others would look after us. Let's not take it any longer lying down but stand up for ourselves to build a fair system for all stakeholders. All those interested in launching the association, please email [email protected] to indicate whether you are interested in actively contributing to the development of the association.

I spend so much to employ my 1st maid who work for me only one month. Replacement came and work for only 9 days . I have to give up my agency fee and pay so much for insurance and transfer fee. And worried MOM will not allow me to employ replacement. Totally waste of $ and so stress.

My child was abused by a Myanmar maid & she ran away to the agency. Filed a police report but the maid only received a warning & wasn't charged. Still working in Singapore too.

These FDWs do not even service their 2 yr contracts. Their outstanding loans are left unanswered and they run off without reasons. Its like we are financing a free tour for these FDWs. My last FDW ran off after 4 mths in July, found her married in Oct on facebook. All pre-planned tours, all expenses paid by S'poreans.

MOM should review on cases where there was no abuse from employer yet the FDW ran away either to the embassy ir the agent's lodging thereby incurring lodging fees. And employers are held at ransom for the remaining loan that the FDW has with the agency even though the FDW went back to the lodging at her own accord.

I had to pay air ticket for a helper who ran to the embassy just 2 days (sat, sun with me, mom morning ran away to the embassy). Where is the fairness? Just 2 days, barely settled down and barely know the job scope. Clearly she had it planned out. I had to take 2 weeks leave from work all of a sudden. Agency could not help too. What's the point of paying agency fees? For such cases, the helper should be penalized by paying for her own air ticket or the embassy should be the one paying. Not employers whom are taken as stepping stones!

The government has placed lots of emphasis on the rights for these foreign domestic workers. It is time to look into the employers' rights. Employers often have to tolerate tons of nonsense and problems from these FDW but we have nowhere to protest. MOM should look into protecting employers' rights and creating a platform for employers to voice their concerns and thereby assisting employers to overcome these problems.
