In 2015, as a board member, we budgeted for the clubhouse bathroom remodeling and unfortunately never happened. It was very minimal amount at that time.

I have grave concerns current Clubhouse plans will result in a "white box" with modern design motifs unsuitable for our fine community of Fairbanks Ranch. The following comments speak to email Ms. Helene Ziman circulated to folks who had signed petition: 1.) I find no historical evidence that Fairbanks Ranch and Ojai Valley Inn are "our sister property". Ojai Valley Inn started off in 1923 as a Wallace Neff designed private clubhouse for the Libbey Glassworks founder. A careful comparison of photos of the original Libbey property and our FRA clubhouse display very few similarities, other than red tile roofs and white stucco. (Wallace Neff, in 1928, suggested to his client, Douglas Fairbanks, the knoll at the end of Calle del Alcazar would make a wonderful homesite. Apparently Neff made some sketches for that site which Ray Watt built as "Casa Zorro". The strong, rather simple lines of Casa Zorro are not shared by the FRA Clubhouse. It is my belief that referring to the Ojai Valley Inn as "our sister property" is unfounded. 2.) A reference was made to the movie, The Holiday, stating the same cabinet and color are being replicated in the current FRA Clubhouse design. Again, a careful study of facts reveals the kitchen in "The Holiday" is not from Wallace Neff's home in San Marino, the outside of which was featured prominently in the movie. Additionally, "Shaker Style" cabinets were ubiquitous in California homes in the early decades of the last century. I personally restored three homes built between 1911 - 1923 - a classic Craftsman, a Mexican Colonial and a Wright Prairie style - and all three had original kitchen cabinets in the Shaker style. 3.) The choice of off-white large, rectangular Porcelain tiles - to mimic limestone - cannot be found in historic photos of Wallace Neff homes. I am opposed to the expensive clubhouse remodel

I want to maintain the spanish style. This is the architecture that our history of f our neighborhood represents

While I applaud the necessary and forward-thinking initiatives of the board and design committee, I would like to respectfully share the following thoughts regarding the redesign of the clubhouse interior and its bathrooms: 1. We risk losing our status and historical relevance if we shift FBR’s design aesthetics in a fundamental way. What makes Fairbanks Ranch unique and distinct is our rich history which is steeped in Spanish Mediterranean architecture. If we stray from that, then we lose the very heart and soul of our community and run the risk of becoming like other non-descript communities in San Diego. 2. Disregarding our architectural guidelines, which are inherent to the Spanish Mediterranean composition, leaves us vulnerable to trendy designs and inclinations of future design committees. Our roots are classic and timeless; they are our future and should guide us in all decisions related to design aesthetics. 3. Our current, community-wide infrastructure reflects and supports the Spanish Mediterranean architecture. All design elements from signage, gates, clubhouse exterior, stables, etc. build upon and are in harmony with one another. This is what gives FBR a cohesive look. If we start changing elements without addressing an overall plan, then the structure starts to break down and the result is visual disharmony and discord. I recognize that these are strong thoughts and I do not mean any disrespect to those who volunteer on the design committee and have invested countless hours and energy into this project. Their generosity of time and talent is noted and sincerely appreciated. Thank you for listening.

Absolutely opposed to the shift in style. Maintaining our unique atmosphere is fundamental to our neighborhood.

I totally agree. The board was not transparent and it’s representations of the cost and future need for other more pressing maintenance needs like the lake like the lake.
