To the Admin of this website, please highlight the following comment: When Fr. Duffy was forced to go to the mental institution, to determine if he was telling the truth about his LYING ambitious-priest friend or else he would lose his priesthood, is a glaring ABUSE of the Canon Law insofar as the Vow of OBEDIENCE is concerned. You can just imagine how POWERFUL those in positions/IN AUTHORITY who are experts in Canon Law. Priests in those positions should be considered not only for their knowledge of the Canon Law but also, and most importantly, for their INTEGRITY; that they are not SCHEMING and MANIPULATIVE because they are armed with a powerful WEAPON that CAN DESTROY any CLERGY/religious on a WHIM. I DON'T THINK the CARDINAL is a good judge of people, which is unfortunate for a fisher of men. It is just my opinion and I'm entitled to what I can argue for. CARDINAL COLLINS, with the hundreds of comments painting Fr. Duffy as a good man and a holy priest, would you still listen to your ADVISERs, or be a real spiritual Father to Fr. Duffy? USE your OWN JUDGMENT, Cardinal! Listen to your conscience.

Fr. Duffy doesn't hide the fact that he contracted malaria and he often tells that story to inject humor as he names the mosquito as the National Bird of the Philippines. I've heard him tell that story more than once. Have some common sense Anonymous foe - would you intentionally share something that you know would hurt your image? Fr. Duffy is NOT dumb. That's why the Archdiocese has assigned him to parishes where there are some cleaning up to do. If the Archdiocese doesn't share that belief that he is a VERY CAPABLE and EFFECTIVE PASTOR and ADMINISTRATOR that's why they assigned him to parishes where cleanup was needed, then I would say that they're just trying to break him physically, mentally, emotionally, psychologically, socially, spiritually, etc. and using his stay at the mental institution to blackmail him. Fr. Duffy is just one HELPLESS PRIEST who was framed up and who was denied timely help to prolong his agony - that's TORTURE, Anonymous!!!

I am intrigued by the comments of "Anonymous" and am concerned about his/her health. It must be difficult when you can't remember your name in order to comment appropriately in this petition. If you are medically trained, you must have skipped the class on malaria. My father contracted malaria in Africa serving our country in the Second World War. Although he had recurring bouts of fever as is the nature of this disease, he was totally competent, both physically and mentally until the day he died. I have known Father John since the day he came to Sacred Heart and has never and I mean never displayed any signs of malaria or the symptoms you described as malaria. What is the purpose of your statements?

It would be interesting to know how many faithful were told by Fr. Duffy that he had contracted cerebral malaria while on one of his travels? I suggest that people research the side effects survivors live with. This disease can cause damage to the brain. This would explain the questionable behavior witnessed by many over the years. Our prayers are for Fr. Duffy and all that have been negatively affected by him.

Mary McDonald, it's sad that you misread my good intentions. I'm just responding to the call of the Venerable Fulton Sheen whose wisdom was shared on this website by a certain R. Robin: "Who is going to save our Church? Not our bishops, not our priests and religious. It is up to you, the people. You have the minds, the eyes, the ears to save the Church. Your mission is to see that your priests act like priests, your bishops, like bishops, and your religious act like religious.--Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen, 1972." We need to SAVE our Church, our Archdiocese!!! I just want to open the eyes of my fellow Catholics to what is happening to Fr. Duffy who garnered hundreds of good/positive comments; nothing but praise for him (except of course the negative comments from his Anonymous foes). Anyone with common sense would emphatize and sympathize with him. He and his lawyer (i.e. if he can still afford one) may not be able to prove that what he was claiming are all true especially if they have no physical evidence. That is why I tried to point out the logic of my deductions to show that Fr. Duffy is telling the truth and is not insane.

Ms. MacDonald, I don't see anything wrong with Tezz Rubio's comments. I see her comments favoring Fr. Duffy who is being painted as mentally ill and a liar. Her what you call "legal analyses" I think would help in letting the public know that although Fr. Duffy has been telling the truth and is not insane has a very slim chance of winning his lawsuit because he's fighting a giant who can afford to hire one of the best law firms. I must admit that I've never heard of the law firm Fr. Duffy hired until I obtained my copy of the documents. Obviously you don't know what happened at the Sacred Heart Parish. According to the Statement of Claim, shortly after arriving at the parish, Fr. Duffy discovered that the finances of the parish were a disaster & brought in an accountant. This caused the chair of the finance committee and his wife, who was then the parish secretary responsible for counting the weekly collection to complain to one of the bishops that Fr. Duffy was running around the parish rectory in just his underwear while brandishing a samurai sword. And the ridiculousness of the subsequent reports from unreliable sources did not stop there. What does that tell you?

To the hosts of this site: Please consider taking down this i-petition. While It has served a fine purpose in that hundreds of people have pledged support for Fr. Duffy, it has been misused by a few characters who do not have Fr. Duffy's best interests at heart. Some of the comments, mostly anonymous, have attacked Fr. Duffy and other posters. And worse, some have second guessed the validity of Fr. John's difficulties with the AD and/or the probability of whether his cause will prevail. I point to Tezz Rubio's recent comments as an example of unhelpful posting. Ms. Rubio has got hold of some of the court documents and has been posting a series of ill-advised and inflammatory commentary based on her understanding - which is limited - of those documents. Many of her comments hurt not only Fr. Duffy but other presumably innocent parties as well. Her posting earlier today is particularly actionable in its representation of events. It is understandable that time prohibits the level of moderation required for this petition to stay on message as a vehicle of support for Fr. Duffy. In recent days, a large percentage of the postings have been from anonymous mischief-makers and "wannabe" lawyers. Neither of these groups have any business getting airtime on a "petition of support", And in my view, their counterproductive posts belong on a different petition, which they are certainly free to start. Ms. Rubio has threatened that she will keep posting her "legal analyses" of Fr. Duffy's case over and over again should this petition dare to remove them. By threatening to spam your petition of support, she reveals where her true interests lie. Having acknowledged that your time does not permit the level of moderation required to maintain the integrity of this "petition of support", I believe that the best course for you is to close this petition to any further posts. The petition would stay up, of course; it just would not have any new posts. Over 600 signatures in a

Thank you for highlighting my buried comment, "Friends of Duffy". I'd like to ask you though why the long comment I submitted on Sept. 26 wasn't posted at all. Was it the length or the content that was censored? There are a number of logical explanations to prove that Fr. Duffy's decision to sue the Defendants was INEVITABLE if one will use common sense in analyzing the chain of events. First of all, what was ordered Fr. Duffy to do (i.e. to go to a mental institution for tests, observation, and evaluation to determine if he was telling the truth about his LYING ambitious priest-friend) was humiliating, embarrassing, painful, and stressful. For a SANE and HONEST person to be ordered such things or else he would lose his priesthood is nothing but PERSECUTION! Given the lack of conscience of his priest-friend, do you think he left the Archdiocese just like that? That poor refugee woman, do you think she left quietly without getting some generous assistance from the Archdiocese to support her and her child(ren)? There are also a number of loopholes one can deduce from the Statement of Defence and logical proofs that Fr. Duffy is not lying but I don't expect Fr. Duffy to win his lawsuit because he doesn't have the resources to hire one of the best lawyers to defend him and to keep it going; and I don't think he's an expert in Canon Law to realize what he can and cannot do in this case. Besides, the experts in Canon Law involved in his case can always circumvent the law. You can withhold posting this long comment once again but I'll try again and again.

Anonymous, either you're trying to bury my comment with your three consecutive comments or you're just nervous that I was able to obtain my copies of the Statements.

Fr Duffy is hiding and won't step in the light and speak openly. He was looking for an exit and used a small group of mouth parishioners too do it.

After reading the statement of claim and statement of defense, I suggest all that are close to Fr. Duffy, encourage, convince him to accept the help the AD has offered. Praying for Fr. Duffy as well as Cardinal Thomas Collins

JUSTICE DELAYED is JUSTICE DENIED! It's been more than two and a half years now since Father was denied the help he asked his Archdiocese to give him. Now I know what the September 13 Highlight is all about. St. Mary Immaculate and the Sacred Heart were Fr. Duffy's last two parishes as Pastor. Common sense tells me that there is NO NEED for Fr. Duffy TO PROVE that what he was claiming are all true. For one, where is his fellow priest now, whom he thought was his friend because he did the favor his priest-friend asked of him? From what I remember, his ambitious priest-friend announced that he’ll be away to study in Rome. What a good excuse for a quiet exit. No wonder he never came back. Can anyone account for his whereabouts? And yet, it was Fr. Duffy who had to undergo the tests. WHERE is the JUSTICE in that? Unless that ambitious priest-friend was exceptionally good academically, I wonder what he did to gain favors from those in authority because he took advantage of a refugee woman.

Craig Metzing, you can obtain your copy of the Statement of Claim and Statement of Defence from the Ontario Superior Court of Justice in Oshawa for a fee; but it's worth every penny. Just keep in mind though that you will just be getting the BIG PICTURE in those documents not the details.

I really would like to know what Father Duffy has done that is so distasteful as to warrant both the consequences and such divisiveness? Until justly proved otherwise, I will continue to believe he is the 'salt of the earth'.

When I started going back to Sacred Heart Parish it was Father John Duffy who was responsible for me to continue to go to church. He uses the Bible and the Gospels for every day life. He has done a lot for the Church in improvements and also Spiritually. I would like an explanation as to why he was let go. I feel this was very unfair. Sincerely, Margaret A. Prohaska.
