Extended library hours will be so helpful. It will really help students not be distracted in a lirbrary setting when doing homework or studying for finals.

Engineering projects and homework don't get finished in time with these new hours. How do we manage to spend money on a brand new pointless arts building, but can't keep libraries open for students who actually are going to school for school.

It's not that school WANTS to cut the hours, it was FORCED to cut the hours. If rather than signing a petition online, one were to organize groups to stay until 12am or later, that might work because then the need becomes realistic.
Literally, there aren't enough people physically staying to open the library past 12, it's just that simple. Having all floors open would be ideal yes, but just not possible under how many students use it (like 15-20 including student employees).
Rather than focus on why the library isn't open, focus on why the library doesn't have the resources to stay open. Focus on why the school can afford a new building but can't afford to bring the science labs up to date. Focus on why the school can afford presidential trips to Europe and Asia (last year Zing used the most funds of any CSU) but can't afford to replace paper towel machines with air dryers.
Don't ask what's wrong with the tiniest detail, ask what's wrong with the whole system.

I actually talked to one of the guys that worked there and he said that one of the reasons they restricted the hours was because of "safety issues." He did say that in the spring semester they were going to resume their usual hours (i.e library closing at 2). I'm still signing though.

First thing I thought of when moving to Chico! Library hours are terrible. I had to wait till 12pm today (Sunday) to go study.

This is wrong. As a second semester student in the Nursing program, the only amenities I use on campus are the Meriam Library and the Wrec. It blows my mind to think that the school would want to restrict the hours (even further than they already were) on the one place that promotes a positive educational environment for students to study. By cutting back these hours, you are encouraging students to spend their free time otherwise. In chico it is widely known that we have a drinking culture. Seeing as I cannot focus at home due to the fact that I have three other roommates, when the library closes at 5:45 I feel as though I might as well go out and enjoy some drinks with friends. The current library hours do not give students the opportunity to meet the expectations which our professors have set for us. For many of us, this is the only quiet place we have to do our school work. As faculty, how can you expect us to do well when you take this away from us?
