The hours requested do seem a bit late, but any compromise would be an improvement to the current hours.

First flaw with this - 1 in 16 isn't really representative of the school (1,000 signatures of over 16,000 students). The school will never take it seriously unless it's around 4,000 to 5,000 signatures AT LEAST, let's be real people.
Second flaw- As someone who has been in the library literally day and night for the past five years, I have never seen more than 30 students in the after-hours (before the hour cuts), it was usually around 10-20. So having the ENTIRE library open until 2 am is just not logical. The only exception was during dead week and finals week, which the library has been open much later than usual for past few years anyways to accommodate last minute cramming.
Third flaw- As someone who has worked in the library, there just isn't enough people statistically staying. If you have been there for at least two-three years you may have seen workers every hour walking around taking count of how many people are here. There are overwhelming statistics showing there is not nearly enough students staying past midnight to keep the first floor open with all the costs, let alone the entire library.
Fourth flaw-not really a flaw, it's just not realistic. If it was open past midnight and they changed it to before midnight closings, it's because people weren't using it. It's one thing to use the library and it's another to agree it should be open past midnight. I can't agree with this because it's just not realistic, change it to first floor being open past midnight and that's something I can agree with. But I think the risk of raising cost of attendance to keep an entire building open for 25 people including workers just isn't worth it.
