I am breastfeeding my 5 month old daughter as I sign this petition. My additional unpaid 12 week leave concludes on Monday. I am so grateful for the time we have had to bond during feeding times. Like all Moms (and Dads) I just wish we did not have to choose between an income and giving our children the best start. I don't know how new Moms who want to breastfeed survive on 12 weeks paid leave -- after 12 weeks that is just when it all started to fall into place!

The time is ripe for change. How much more evidence do we need. Short-term costs vs long-term health benefits. The health of our nation must be our priority !!

Children should e, breastfed exclusively.for at least 6 months. They need to bond with the mother. No one in day care can pay enough individual attention to a new baby. They need to be held. If we pride ourselves as a pro family country then the 6month paid maternity leave is a must.

I agree mothers need to be able to spend more time home with they newborns especially if there are complications during the pregnancy or delivery.

Extended leave is very important for both mother and child to bond and health. Child deserves for nurture and care. Hope to see this come in to reality.
