Caledon Rep Tryouts

Also in response to Terry- and everyone else,.. I am sorry, This is not about hating anyone? or about fighting with people, its about addressing the reason why people leave this center and why many parents are now more then ever are registering their kids in the GTHL when their child first signs up for hockey rather then in Caledon - an opportunity i was advised to do by MANY when my child first started to play hockey. I ignored that advice and elected to register my child in Caledon from the start. I look at the opportunities these other families are afforded in the GTHL - Free to explore many many opportunities to play on different various AA- A and AE teams in that age group -not just one AA, A or AE team. Grant it these other teams may not be perfect, however you have choice and you have opportunity, You would be a fool not to consider this when your child starts hockey as evidence here shows all the problems with not giving players opportunities to play where they want in this center. there is a problem here that is evident- Ask yourself this- if you could turn back the clock or magically be released from Caledon and afford your child the luxury and freedom to explore many different teams freely would you not take that opportunity knowing what you know now? My advice to Caledon would be if you continue to refuse giving kids the opportunity to explore options in hockey then you do not deserve to have players sign up and surely will lose mass registration as is happening now in the younger age groups. its no mystery numbers are down- people are just getting wise and playing elsewhere that affords them options. Caledon will continue to lack registration should this continue. .........its not about hate-its about choice and opportunity, ...and those parents who know chose choice and freedom. if i was asked what to do by a young hockey family starting out in Caledon - it would be very difficult for me at this time not to advise them to register elsewhere.

what a disaster!, i see now why many parents elect to register their child outside of caledon to play hockey at the earliest of age. .... disgraceful whats happening....

Make hockey better for these 2001's. We are getting so discouraged! There's only 2 more years for these boys. Let them finish in style!

I was going to sign this, but after reading comments it appears its mostly about fielding competitive teams rather then ensuring the kids get a positive experience and development - it seems most here don't give a rats behind about the kids playing-its all about winning. no thank you.

It is the only way to roster competitive teams at each level. It is the way the system is intended to work.

Perhaps there is a reason why so many parents and players elect to play MD in this centre? Perhaps this is where the root of this debate lies? . It seems to me this whole system is flawed. The CMHA is making decisions underhandedly and divert from the CRHA. The CRHA's System is far from perfect, however this should be open to a real discussion and vote by both parties collectively. If both parties are incapable of resolving the process in the Players (Not the Centres) best interest a mediator should be called upon to aid in resolving the matter. However all that said,.. punishing and threatening players that they must play house league if they are not comfortable playing for a certain level or certain coach is grounds for legal action. Furthermore to enforce such ideal's as a governing body of minor Hockey or any other activity for that matter is appalling. There are ways to make this process better,. if the CMHA and CRA are truly concerned about the players well being first and foremost then you all should get to work figuring out a solution and make the process less flawed together. suggestions: -Allow players the opportunity to guide their minor hockey development in a direction they are comfortable with at the rep level. -Create a form for players to request a divert from any level before tryouts and grant them that right, if no request form has been completed you must attend tryouts.- if mass amounts of players are requesting a divert from one team, you most likely have put a coach in place many people have an issue with or have a coach stacking a team. address the problem before tryouts. - ID skates work - its extremely rare a house League or MD player will make a AA team- however give them all a opportunity to be seen before tryouts. These are only a few suggestions that could help solve some problems and I no longer have a child playing hockey in Caledon. CMHA and CRHA- please don't make this center any more of an embarrassment than it already

Let's be proud of Caledon for establishing competitive teams at the Rep level. Not for being known as a centre that has the winning-est MD teams.

I see the CMHA has now eliminated the Peewee A team. I find it very disconcerting that they have the power to make these types of decisions (along with the 'open tryout' fiasco) without consulting the CRHA membership. I am the former head coach for the minor peewee AE team. For those folks that are interested in my story (that of certain CMHA executives trying to oust me as the coach...and the same individuals who made it a personal vendetta to remove my team manager) I will be attending the meeting on Wed. I will have copies of the "appeal of CMHA decision" whereby the OMHA ruled in my favour. The decision : "Due to the flawed process of the meetings prior and during the investigation, the OMHA Code of Conduct Appeal Panel renders the decision of the Caledon Minor Hockey Association null & void. The panel further recommends the new 2016 - 2017 CMHA Executive attend an OMHA Executive seminar." It is in my opinion that certain CMHA executives have made decisions that benefit only themselves...and not in the best interest of the kids. I would also like to see the CMHA executives (at least the President) attend Wednesday's meeting to explain their decisions in person. See you on Wednesday.

Players MUST have a voice as to what level of hockey they play. Period The End ! find a solution- trickle down is not the answer and totally open tryouts has its flaws as well- I can not get behind a movement that is based primarily on giving a coach the chance to pick a more competitive team. Develop the players that want to be there and develop the coaches so players will want to play there.

The trickle down process for tryouts needs to be in place in order to have the kids play where they belong and make all our "Caledon Rep Teams" competitive.

Players before politics - let coaches pick the best teams at each level and give the players a chance to compete at each level - too many times politics and side deals ruin teams. Trickle-down gives coaches best chance to pick a competitive team.

I am reading all these posts and respectfully disagree and am disgusted! No one seems to want to consider their other side of these statements. You are all posting about how to pick the right kids and it's about the kids but seem to forget that it has never been about that! In the rep division most of the coaches has picked their friends and blacklisted kids, it has been proven in the past years by the standings alone!!!!! Also, kids should have the choice where they want to play and not forced on teams they are not comfortable with and if not accepting that team they are forced into house league??? What is this showing our kids? Choices in life is what we need to teach the kids not bullied into teams!!!!! So before you post ur opinions, consider ALL the children's feelings and look at both sides, funny how certain people push others to gang up and speak for their own interest and hurting the kids is not even in their thoughts. This is about hockey and fun for the kids not for the parents to live through their kids, fair shot is what they need and unfortunately with this CRHA that will NEVER happen as they conspire together cause they cannot deal with what is right!!!! GROW UP PARENTS AND STOP THIS TRICKLE DOWN JOKE!!!! WOW

Need the Trickle Down for tryouts kids need to play where they belong to make all our teams fair.

It may be time to abandon the current 2 level Executive System we have in place that seems to be in nothing but Conflict and Struggling for Power of each other, and look towards a New Single Executive to oversee all of Caledon Hockey that places the importance back to where it should be , "HAVE KIDS PLAY HOCKEY FOR THE LOVE OF THE GAME"
