Explanation of the Issue: Dove hunting is currently allowed within the limits of the City of McKinney so long as it occurs on property at least 10 acres in size and is at least 1000 feet from a public tract of land (ex school, hospital etc) and is at least 600 feet from a multi family property (such as an apartment complex) and at least 150 feet from a private residence. Due to safety concerns following several occasions where hunters have been less than 1000 feet from a public tract of land AND/OR less than 150 feet from private residences when firing shots in the direction of private residences and a public elementary school, we are asking for support from the community to expand the buffer zone to no less than 1200 feet from a public tract of land (school) and no less than 700 feet from a private residence.
