I agree wholeheartedly! This is too crucial of a position to limit it to inside sources. That's the problem with Fresno unified School district. We need fresh eyes and new ideas.

While there may be some good candidates within Fresno Unified, I’ve also seen the attitude of “this is the way we’ve always done things” at work far too often within the district. An open search would not prevent good local candidates from being considered and should not reflect poorly on them. Rather the inclusion of a broader field would strengthen the rationale for the primary choice.

To limit the search to only internal candidates is what I would expect of the district I quit working for after several years teaching. Under the guise of “We know best—an internal candidate would know the pain points better than anyone,” our children can expect the same as the what they’ve been getting. And, that’s exactly why I pulled my own daughter out of Bullard High School for her last two years and why I quit working for FUSD as a literacy teacher. Top-down didn’t care about the teachers any more than they cared about the students. Playing the political game by limiting the search for what amounts to Fresno’s future will only benefit the same tier of people. At the expense of the most vulnerable. There is a reason people fear transparency and competition.

The board owes Fresno an explanation why they’re not willing to look outside Fresno for the best candidate for superintendent. Maybe the best candidate is local, but that’s not been established. We owe our kids and our community better.

We need a leader who is willing to change the present culture of this District entirely and when it comes to safety & security practices. We are 10 years behind in safety measures. Our District had $2.2 billion in revenue. That's FUSD historical budget never had amount. Things need to change and sometimes the board needs to think out of the box, or comfort zone to make that change happen. Hire internally then no change occurs, unless the internal candidate can implement ideas outside the paradigm and shift for the common good for all.

Hire someone that understands how to educate all kids to their highest potential - not to the lowest common denominator. There's a lot to unpack in the above statement, but basically, hire someone that is not weak.

I want a search that looks for the best candidate not only internally but nationally. If this does not happen I will help campaign for every person running against the incumbents. Do what your public wants and stop the special interest bs.

I believe FUSD Board members need to look outside the school district for the next Superintendent of FUSD! The search needs to go beyond the employees of FUSD to interview and hire the next superintendent.

As an employee of the district I'd like there to be a large pool of qualified individuals to choose from, not just current employees.
