Exempt Trend-Arlington from Infill 2

My parents were original owners (1971) in this fabulous neighbourhood. I grew up here and I currently live in their house as I deal with their estate and decide whether or not it will be my forever home too. People thought my parents were foolish to buy so far out of the city ... look at the city now! To have such an amazing neighbourhood within the city cannot be understated and must be preserved!

Thanks for launching this initiative. I'm fortunate enough to live on one of the corner-lots in question, and I've got white pines right in my neighbor's yard. This is a beautiful neighborhood, and the majestic trees that we are proud to live among should and must be protected.

I grew up near this area and loved walking through the pine trees. Totally support this petition.

I am not a resident of Trend-Arlington but I strongly support its residents in saving a valuable natural area. Community values that aim to protect the unique character of our neighbourhoods should always trump development creep and poor planning. Natural areas provide critical habitat for wildlife and allow us humans that important connection to nature, something that is increasingly recognized as key for the health and well-being of all ages. The Ottawa-Carleton Wildlife Centre hears from many residents across the city that are frustrated by the lack of respect this City too often shows for the natural features that make communities like Trend-Arlington special.

The urban forest plays an important ecological and esthetic role and needs the City's protection, especially given the recent loss of the ash trees. Taking down mature healthy trees in this area does not make sense.

To replace just one of these trees would take either hundreds of thousands of dollars, or decades of careful nurturing. Preserving them is a prudent fiscal and ecological decision.

We moved here 2 years ago from Westboro Beach to escape the intensification, where it seems a huge semi-detached was going up on a daily basis. It was the trees that drew us in to Arlington Woods. Im am for intensification where it makes sense, and in this case it doesn't. And I speak as an owner of a corner lot who would benefit from allowing a severance under Infill II. My biggest problem with Infill II is that there is no provision to consider the existing neighbourhood character unlike Infill I. In our case the biggest character of the neighbourhood is the white pines and natural environment so consideration should be given to maintain that character!

Few houses would not justify all the trees that would be killed!

The character of this neighbourhood is what makes it such a special place to live, this includes the larger lots and the majestic white pines. Please do not jeopardize it.

Please do not touch the forest. It is the reason why we moved to Arlington Woods.

Neighborhoods like Arlington Woods, that have been developed in old growth forests, should have special zoning that reflects the unique and distinctive nature of the community. Zoning that protects the forest from unsustainable development and densification.

I love the white pine in this community, it really makes a difference in the environment.

Sustainable environments require trees: good healthy trees. Any community has a right to ensure it is socially, environmentally and economically sustainable. This means a right to have some say in what happens on neighbouring properties in the community - esp when zoning change is required. This is only reasonable.

The City is trying to destroy what is uniquely Ottawa with lots of green areas, old growth areas. We are not Toronto or Vancouver and for you make arbitrary decisions that will only reap a one time benefit so Ottawa can pay for the LRT is just wrong.

Hello, I moved into the neighbourhood just over a year ago. I chose this location for its majestic natural beauty (read the pine forest!), private location and easy access to the Greenbelt trails. If I wanted a less treed location, I would have had many, many more areas to choose from, but I wanted to live amongst nature without having to live outside of the city. Trend-Arlington is such a unique place to live. Leave it as it is! I don't want just another cookie-cutter neighbourhood. I do not appreciate over-crowded, concrete and asphalt filled neighbourhoods. I want the space, the greenery and the wildlife that it brings with it. We are loosing so many majestic trees in the city already due to the ash borer, let's not cut down any more. Thank you, Joanna

Trend-Arlington has already been developed enough, please preserve the Greenspan and beauty of one of Ottawa's nicest neighborhoods!

I spent my entire youth growing up in Trend village and then Arlington woods. I walked to and from school everyday 4 times a day through the forest and spent countless hours riding my bike through this beautiful neighbourhood. Whenever I find myself passing by I will take a detour and take the long way through this area because I believe it to be one of the most beautiful communities that we have in Ottawa. As we look to the future of a building more sustainable communities we should protecting communities like this and protecting them as an example of what communities should look like. If we destroy them now, what benchmark will be left for our grandchildren to aspire towards.

It would be disheartening to see this happen.

This is one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in the whole city. To jeopardize the trees for the sake of being able to.add a few more family dwellings is preposterous.
