PHS Students,

Many of us have questioned the new district policy requiring everyone to take final exams with no exemptions. This was done because the Board members felt Pendleton students were not prepared for college exams and needed the extra practice. We decided to launch this petition to ask this be changed for next year because:

1. We take exams constantly all year so a final exam will not enhance our test taking abilities.

2. We have looked at research and it is not known if final exams make students perform better in college or not.

3. Information on one additional test we will take in 9th, 10th and 11th grades will not stay with us in a way that improves our test scores in college.

4. What is taught in college is not the same information that is taught in our high school courses.

5. Students should be allowed to accept the grade they earned throughout the academic year if they are satisfied without having to take final exams that could hurt their grades and adds great stress at the end of a long year.

If you agree that we should not be forced to take end of year exams, sign this petition to ask the School Board to reverse this policy.

Thanks

I will be in high school next year. Throughout my whole academic career, I have worked hard to receive good grades. I believe that when I am in high school, I should be able to exempt my exams due to my hard work that I put into my grades.

Exams have always been a reason for students to try hard in classes, avoid getting in trouble, and also show up to school. Exempting exams provide the motivation students need to do those things.

I believe the students who work hard all year and mantain decent or even above average grades, should have the opportunity to exempt exams.

I recently transferred and at my old school if you had an a or b on your final grade then you didn't have to take an exam

I strongly agree with reversing the exam policy. If you make students who already have an A in their class take an exam that oftentimes counts for 20% of their grade, the only thing it can do to them is bring their grade down. As opposed to someone who had below an A when an exam actually could help to boost their grade.

Last year, I had one exam. This year, I have 7. While I could likely pass most if not all of them with an, "A," it reduces time more needed studying for tests such as the EOC or AP exam.

Exam exemption is a great incentive to make A's and have good attendance.

I don't support the exams if we have made all As. What is my motivation to make good grades and stay out of trouble?
