Evaluate Wetland Threatened by Approved Arena Complex at Trent U!

No arena complex on a TRENT's wetlands and wildlands! No development without full environmental assessment (as we TRENT students were taught to employ)!

As a Trent alumni, I expect better of this administration in considering environmental impacts for their developments and indigenous consultation.

This is terrible!

One cant be that blind, so as not to see the destruction about to take place, if this should go ahead. The Trent U. signs along the trails read "please stay on trail", so as not to disturb the ecosystem. This proposed arena is at the other end of the spectrum. Try praying and seeing what your conscience says...

Many years ago I attended the Elder's Conference at Trent University. It was like a breath of fresh air to discover that there was an Institute of Higher Learning which was so committed to hosting and supporting Native vision and justice initiatives. Has the administration become so blind as to what Trent has stood for in the past, or has it been co-opted, like other places have been, by development mania and big bucks? I would never have thought that Trent would ever consider wiping out a wetland when it has been shown that ample alternatives exist. What lessons does one teach if one speaks of honouring Mother Earth while paving Her over unnecessarily?

Surely a new site could be chosen. The development of the arena should not hold precedence over the environment. It affects the health and welfare of all of us. Just looks what’s happpening world wide. We must be the caretakers of the Earth. If not us then who? I urge you to stop the building in this area.

It is iconceivable in a community that has been designated an RCE in sustainable education that this is even a conversation that needs to be had. Who are we really if we do not hold ourselves to the highest standard of environmental responsibility as Trent University and Peterborough, ON? Shame on us for not consulting First Nations on this project yet boasting for making mandatory Indigenous Studies courses across the university. One action completely nagates the other. This is the same colonial forked tongue Indigenous people have been dealing with for centuries. Change needs to happen Trent! If not now when? If not you who?

It is regrettable that an environmental assessment was not undertaken at the time of the original proposal. This university has excellent expertise and resources for this kind of assessment.

Listen to the people who know how to fix this right. And Pray to our Creator to intervene!

Please preserve the wetlands

Please preserve the Wildlife Sanctuary and the Silver Maple swamp by relocating the Recreation Complex and other developments from the wetlands that contain the Wildlife Sanctuary.

Once the wetlands are gone so will the biodiversity needed for a health ecosystem be gone.

please dont cut down the trees

We can and must do better. Wetlands play an important role in our waterway system and must be conserved and protected.

The science on wetlands is clear, we need them for flood prevention, and ecosystems need them to survive. Wetland protections have been a priority for decades and are way more important than another arena. Let us not be self-centered humanoid dolts. Please.

Please re-evaluate and consider what heritage really is.

Wow I though Trent U had a a lot more ethics than this. Maybe funding for environmental projects that Trent has and will receive should be completely withdrawn and given to a more conscious university.

Protect natural habitats and greenspace.
