There's no point to the green code if developers like Ciminelli aren't required to adhere to it or are granted variances.

I sign and ask that Mayor Brown stand and act with citizens of Buffalo who have made their total rejection of Ciminelli's Elmwood-Bidwell concept and their unified perspective on it overwhelmingly clear.
The fact that Ciminelli is still pushing with "see me in court" threats, and a crash and burn approach to punch a hole in the neighborhood ("go nuclear", as their hardball strategist puts it) through early partial demolitions strongly indicates that Ciminelli has not been told with appropriate authority that the City Administration is committed to doing what it has to do, wherever it has to do it, to stop this project as currently conceptualized.
It is clear what citizens want, what the city needs, and how important this issue is. Mayor Brown, even if privately, and certainly in his own quiet style, needs to threaten on behalf of his city and citizens to do his own version of "go nuclear". Citizens will know that the Mayor has done that when we see Ciminelli swerve aside on Elmwood-Bidwell.
.
Ciminelli needs to hear (James Comerford's comments in BEN 1/15/17 are a step in the right direction) that at the highest levels, the Brown Administration is committed to doing whatever might be done to make the outcome at Elmwood-Bidwell comport with the coming Green Code, however and wherever Ciminelli's interests and needs might touch City authority, and wherever and whenever the future interests of current City officials may interact with possibilities from Ciminelli.
City officials, from the Mayor on down, have remarkable but unacknowledged formal and informal power with any developer, even Ciminelli, across a broad range of current and future issues (many beyond the more narrow particular arena of immediate concern) which they can use as might be necessary to assure that, as in this instance, the project at Elmwood-Bidwell meets the reasonable standards of the engaged citizens.
And yet the face-off stance and muscle-flexing by Ciminelli continues. It is

Ciminelli needs to down-size this development and show respect for the neighborhood. I'm not anti-development, but I believe new development should enhance and restore what's here, not destroy it. Make it work at a smaller scale.

It seems as if certain developers are able to get away with whatever they want. The Elmwood Village is changing much too quickly. The building at Elmwood/Delavan will have a huge impact on parking for residents and visitors. The Bidwell project would tear apart the core of the EV.

Absolutely not. These buildings and others like it are what make Elmwood Village what it is! Take this junk monstrous architecture to Amherst or Williamsville please, and stop trying to pillage this beautiful neighborhood to line your greedy pockets. So sick of seeing this name associated with shady deals and questionable business practices. Block the sun in someone else's neighborhood.
