Reliability is the most fundamental piece of any software system. Advances on software engineering and on the verification and validation of software are needed now, more than ever. The continuous investment on software-related systems (e.g., AI, IoT) just reinforces the need for funding on areas related to the development of formal methods for software validation and verification. We cannot lack support on the most fundamental requirement underlying all software systems.

Software research is seriously underfunded in Europe. The correct and reliable functioning of software systems is critical to practically all companies and institutions today. We are still far from being able to build reliable software predictably and effectively.
