Europe needs strong software research. Software is everywhere nowadays. It is at the heart of society, and I think we are just starting!

Thank you for the initiative!
Unfortunately Software Research has almost no "lobbyism" in Brussels. The policy makers and the public are more aware of other technology-related keywords such as "AI", "Security", or "Social Media" , while at the end of the day, a real leadership and transfer and Europe also in these areas will NOT happen without a strong software (engineering) research. The trend in the international community is clear: software conferences, publications and projects are getting bigger and stronger with emerging topics such as AI Testability, Security Architectures, Sustainable Software, Empirical/ Data-Driven Software Engineering...
Many strong contributions are already coming from other regions of the world. Europe must make sure to not miss the train.

We really need a full support for the fundamental research in software Europe-wide, or else we are bound to play second league.

[...] Fostering such innovations requires fundamental software research, independently of specific application areas (e.g., blockchain, AI, Internet of Things, quantum computing, etc.). [...]
Fully agree!
