Euclid Avenue Bicycle Plan

I'm a parent of an ESF student. She and the other members of this college community are dedicated to improving our environment. Please help keep them safe as they try to accomplish their goal by biking to and from campus.

Bike lines between the sidewalks and streets everywhere!! Please!

I am a professor at Upstate and I use this corridor regularly and very much support these improvements. Please note that it not only SU and ESF; many Upstate students and faculty use this route, too. I would like to go further and suggest that the city look into reviving the rail corridor that apparently existed on Euclid. I've noted old streetcar tracks emerging through the pavement. Even a short light rail line from the SU campus to Meadowbrook would be a major assest to the neighborhod and community, and would be used by the many students who travel this route.

I am a faculty member at SU as well as a Syracuse resident. I use my bicycle as a means for transportation at least 80% of the time as well as recreationally 3 months out of the year. More cycling infrastructure will go a long way towards improving the liveability of this city. More cyclists and more infrastructure (and please don't only concentrate on the University area) will eventually make for a safer and less congested city.

Terrible intersection - I drove there a few weeks ago to see an art exhibition on campus - scary!

Not just for folks biking to S.U. Think of the children biking east to Meadowbrook on their way to Nottingham High School!

I live right off of Euclid. A dedicated bike lane AND public education about the correct way to bike in consideration of cars, and to drive in consideration of bikes is necessary along this corridor. While more bikers is a wonderful boon against global warming, more traffic and sedentary lifestyles, it must be safe. I drive and bike along this route. It is dangerous. There is barely enough room for a bicyclist and car along the road withOUT parked cars. WITH cars, is basically UNsafe. And drivers, unaccustomed to or heedless of bicyclists can be perilous for the biker. ANd bicyclists who do not adhere to the rules of the road confuse drivers and represent other cyclists poorly. We cannot have it both ways: darting in and out of traffic at will, ignoring traffic lights and signs and still hope to remain safe and respected on the road. We need to improve this corridor before we are making recompense to some student's family.

I never feel safe on my way to class.

My wife drives this everyday and my daughter bikes it. It is dangerous for everyone.

Bikes lanes are a great investment for a city and its people!

This is IMPORTANT. My daughter was hit while riding her bike on Euclid a couple years ago! Fortunately she wasn't badly injured.

Bike lanes, yes! People who repeatedly post that there is a bike lane on Euclid - Morons!

Five years ago, a SEUNA leader proposed the same as the petition, no parking, wider bike lanes separated from the traffic, etc. SEUNA's plan was defeated. SU is in session only 9 months. the bike accident rate on Euclid is very low. Think about using the empty bike lane, even if against traffic as safer then cycling alongside parked cars.

I travel by bike every day to and from the SU campus. I am frequently nervous that cars or busses may misjudge the space bike riders, like I, may need on the road. With an increasing student population in the east neighborhood, it would be a wise investment by the university to construct bike lanes in order to protect students. Of course there would be a displacement of on-street parking, but a separate solution to that issue could easily be found. I am a proponent for installing bike lanes in either one or both directions on Euclid avenue.

I ride my bike to and from school every day. Having cars parked on either side alternating days makes it hard to ride some days when careless drivers and buses fly by you. I am a huge supporter of the bike lane!

Bicycling and pedestrian safety needs to be improved around and on the SU campus and in the city. Ask SU to stripe bike lanes on its driveways, Univ. Pl. College Pl., etc. Ten years ago, I led a tiny "task force" that petitioned and won the Centro bus shelter near Bird/ Shine on Univ. Pl. Before that, JABBY (Joggers and Bikes Belong Yes) promoted city and SU bike lanes, signage, and got Centro in 1992 to install bike racks on its buses, like Cornell and Calif. college towns had had for years. Bureaucrats and SU officials move glacially on some issues. like pedestrian and bike safety. Talk to the heads of Parking & Transit and safety at SU. It should be easy to also get bike boxes at Comstock & Euclid, Univ. Ave & Waverly, Crouse & Waverly.
