Euclid Avenue Bicycle Plan

I live off of Euclid about 1.5 miles from S.U. I bike. I don't bike this route for precisely the reasons stated in this petition. My husband is faculty at S.U. I recently was a grad student. The drivers have no sense of bicyclist rules, and etiquette nor do most of the cyclists. I have been witness to a cyclist doing exactly what I was taught was right, years ago, get in the turn lane at the light. Stop. Signal with their arm which way they are turning, and I have watched the drivers almost mow them down or get impatient with them. I have watched other cyclists dart in and out of traffic, not stop, zoom through lights and signs and no signal and wanted to stop them all and shout :"Stop, if you want respect, you have to represent cyclists better. Obey the traffic laws." Thus, I think this petition is important but a public education campaign for drivers and cyclists that is REINFORCED for infractions is also important to increasing safety for cyclists and drivers on this corridor.

I am a full-time staff member at SU. I am also a homeowner in the outer Comstock neighborhood.

I often ride on the sidewalks because it is so much safer. I'd rather have safe bike lanes (hopefully planned and designed by someone who rides bicycles themselves!)

This has been a long time coming, there is entirely too much traffic congestion for so many bikers who live on these streets and use them frequently.

Im a everday bike commuter. Please do this for safety and every other good imaginable reason. Thank you

cyclists for cyclists

I just witnessed a student get smashed by a driver very close to my home on Euclid/westcott and it's obvious a bike lane is needed.

Just moved from living directly on Euclid 7 months ago. It is surprising to me that more pedestrians and cyclists are not killed; Euclid Ave. is extremely unsafe. The portion just west of Meadowbrook is hilly, with very short sight distance for cars. There are 2 crosswalks that put pedestrians at great risk. Bicyclists face the risk of being "doored", and even of reckless pedestrians popping out between parked cars. Take action, City of Syracuse, before the carnage increases. I will bet that there is state or federal funding for this.

The bike plan will also improve commuting conditions for public grade school and high school students.

I bike from Westcott to Campus every single day.

Student and cyclist; nearly run over every day. I feel so unsafe I would rather walk to class than have to face the intersections/roads via bicycle.

Any addition of bicycle infrastructure in Syracuse makes sense.

Yes! to dedicated bicycle lanes on Euclid Ave.! I have no direct connection with SU or ESF other than being a longtime homeowner in the neighborhood. For over 2 years I commuted to work by bicycling along Euclid Ave. and continuing through campus to Dr. King Elementary School. While I work elsewhere now (and continue to commute by bicycle), I frequently have occasion to ride along Euclid Ave. I look forward to the day when all of Syracuse is connected with appropriate bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure. Euclid Ave. is the obvious next step.

This just makes sense. The users and pedestrians who utilize Euclid everyday to get to work and/or class deserve proper bicycle/pedestrian infrastructure!

I live off of Euclid and have to ride on this street every day! I don't like that the cars to my right are so close that if someone opens their door I'll either smash into it or swerve and be hit by the car on my left. A bike lane is a must.

It's a must. No brainer. If manhattan can manage heavy traffic and bus routes in conjunction with bike routes on two lane streets, Syracuse sure as hell can! Right on!
