All electric scooters up to 500w should be permitted on the roads without restrictions. Just as bicycles, manual or electric, are permitted - scooters should also be! Safety and protection must also reflect the bicycle rules, ie. Helmets and lights. Any deviation from this request is ignorant and mean.

In regards to the use of e scooters being confiscated on a regular basis does this mean anyone on a mobility scooter or an electric wheelchair could also have these seized as they are used everyday and do not need to be pedalled or scoot to start them off, they are l00% self propelled which in fact makes them fall into the same category as ebikes and scooters. I have 3 motorbikes insured but unable to tax and insure an evo powerboard scooter.

Both myself and wife have e-scooters, and they are a quicker, cleaner, cheaper alternative to driving a car/public transport and are no more/less safe than a bicycle. In a lot of instances, cyclists cases will travel faster than a 25KM/H limited eScooter therefore making them more dangerous to themselves and others....speed kills (I believe that's the RSA's tagline??

They should be regulated to a max speed and weight, and then treated equally as bikes. They are only as dangerous as bikes, and in most cases already a lot slower than fast cyclists. People should be encouraged to use public transport, scooters, and bikes to reduce traffic and pollution in Ireland.
